Almost every state in the United States of America has a DOT Emergency Response Team that patrols the major highways and byways of their respective state. DOT stands for Department of Transportation and each state in the union has a department like this. DOTs help to maintain the safety and construction of state highways and interstate highways by performing construction work, repair work and providing Emergency Response Teams for its citizens. An Emergency Response Team usually patrols the highways and byways of the state to aid motorists with problems when driving on the roads.

A Department of Transportation Emergency Response Team patrols the highways each and every day, all hours of the day, from one end of the highway to another, looking for trouble spots on the roads and drivers dealing with car problems. Those trouble spots could be debris on the highway, potholes, accidents, car fires, stalled vehicles and vehicles that have run out of fuel. Emergency Response Teams can recharge a car’s battery, push it off the highway if it is blocking one of the lanes, close down lanes of the highway for an accident and much more.

Each state’s Department of Transportation Emergency Response Team has complete access to local and state police, fire and emergency personnel. They are in constant contact with those arms of public safety at all times and can request emergency services at a moment’s notice. Emergency Response Teams haven’t been around for too long, they first appeared in the late 1990s/early 2000s for most states. New Jersey added their Emergency Response Team in the mid 2000s and it has been in use ever since. They patrol I-295, Routes 70 and 73, the Garden State Parkway, the Atlantic City Expressway, the New Jersey Turnpike, Routes 55 and 42, I-76, I-676 and many more.

More often than not, a state’s Emergency Response Team is the first vehicle to arrive on scene at an accident since they are already patrolling the highways. Once on scene the crew can block lanes, remove debris or recharge the battery of a broken down car. Emergency Response Teams have helped to limit the number of accidents and broken down vehicles on the roads of America since they were introduced years ago. These teams also help to keep the flow of traffic moving at a significant pace when working at an accident scene by blocking lanes far enough in advance of the accident scene.

How many times has your car stalled on the highway and you have called your AAA agent and it takes hours on end for a truck to arrive? Maybe you are on an unfamiliar roadway and your car stalls. You don’t want to have to wait forever for someone to come assist you with restarting your vehicle. That’s what makes Department of Transportation Emergency Response Teams so helpful and effective for motorists on the roads these days. They can arrive at almost a moment’s notice since there are more than a handful of them patrolling each highway on a daily basis.
