Even though there are millions upon millions of motor vehicles on the roads today, there are still people that do not have a car to their name. Why? Some people live so close to where they work or go to school that they can walk, ride a bike, ride a bus, take the subway or take a cab. But, when it is time to go on a business trip or travel for a vacation, those people need to use cars too. One way to get a car is by borrowing one from a relative or friend. The other way to get a car without purchasing one is to rent one from a car rental agency.

Car rental agencies are located all across the nation in every major city and in every suburb of those cities. Renting a car is quite easy. It can be done at the location of the car rental service, over the phone, or on the agency’s website. Renting a car is very simple and it makes sense when traveling anywhere long distance if you don’t want to put the mileage and wear and tear on your own car. A majority of states in the United States have laws that do not permit anyone to rent a car under the age of 25 but some states do allow you to rent a car if you are over the age of 21.

Car rental companies are usually located in tourist towns, near or in the parking lots of airports, near train stations, near bus depots and in busy cities. Almost every car rental company in the country allows for online registration, which makes for an easier process of obtaining your rental car once on site. You don’t have to wait in line to rent the car and there will still be your car of liking available on the lot if you reserve it over the internet.

Car rental companies are perfect for people that don’t own a car, whose car is in the shop being repaired, who are far from home and need a car to travel around town, or anyone who has had their car stolen. Some car rental companies across the country also offer vans and trucks for rent if you are moving and need to transport your personal belongings from one state to another. They are now directly competing with moving truck rental companies by offering vans and trucks for your moving needs too.

There are two forms of car rental companies. Those two forms are fleet companies and commercial companies. A fleet car rental company owns every single one of the cars they rent to customers, also called their fleet of cars, and have the car manufacturers send them cars for their fleet. Commercial car rental companies are ones that have a commercial agreement with other car rental companies to provide access to their fleet of cars. Commercial car rental companies do not own their own fleet of cars, they borrow them from other companies and return them when they are finished renting them to customers.
