Where Did They Go? Lost Friends

Over the years it is not uncommon to fall out of touch with friends. Cleaning out the basement, you come across your senior year book. As you start thumbing through a wash of melancholy falls over you. What happened to Sally? or Jeff?. These were friends that you could not do anything with out them there.

Jeff your best friend for years pulled you out of the lake when the rope on the tire swing snapped and you flew out way to far and broke your arm on the stump floating by. And how he rushed you home to your mom and dad. Jeff stayed by your side at the Doctors office while they reset the bone and put the cast on. His was the first signature on that cast. You can still feel the cold Doctor office, the mix of odors still impressed in your mind, a muddle of Isopropyl alcohol, and pond scum stuck to the bottom of Jeff's shoes.

Sally was your first crush, you can still remember how she looked the night of the Home coming dance. That blue lace dress that probably showed a little too much down the front. How nervous you were trying to pin the corsage to her dress in front of her parents? You can still smell the mix of sweet perfume and the rose as your hands trembled. Her mother could tell how uncomfortable you were and immediately stepped in to help. All the while you could feel her dad's eyes piercing through you with that you best treat my daughter with respect. After the dance standing at her front door just a few minutes later than when her dad had demanded she be home. Wondering if you should kiss her?

Since those good times either in high school, grade school, or even college. Your life has changed immensely, you now have a wife and kids of your own with the dog in the back yard.

What has Jeff done, you knew he was joining the Army after he graduated. But after he left you received a couple of letters from him over the first few months. Jeff had been deployed to Germany the last time you heard from him, but that was 20 years ago. Did he stay in Germany, did he ever make it back to the States? Was he deployed in the Gulf War and did not make it back? His last letter stated he was applying to OCS (Officer Candidate School) was he accepted and did he become an Officer?

Where is Sally did she become as successful as you thought she would? Did she write the Best Seller book that she was always writing in that three ring binder she always carried around with her that held her most valued secrets? You would make fun of her how her eyes would glaze over and she would become quiet even in the middle of a conversation and immediately pull out the binder frantically scribbling away.
