Cala Galdana – known as the “Queen of the Calas”, is justifiably one of the most popular resorts on the island of Menorca, and is regarded as one of the finest family friendly resorts in the Mediterranean. Whether you choose to stay in a resort hotel or in one of the many villas in Cala Galdana, you’ll be treated to stunning landscapes, a charming resort town, and the best beach in Menorca.

Still not sure whether it is for you? Here are five highlights of a holiday in Cala Galdana that might help you make up your mind…

5. The Locals

Despite the influx of tourists to Menorca in recent years, the island still retains a traditional island charm. Menorca’s inhabitants are famed for their warmth, humour and laid back attitude, and nowhere on the island is this truer than in Cala Galdana. The local ways of life have survived almost untouched, and the local Menorcans in this resort are legendary for their friendliness and hospitality.

4. The Natural Surroundings

Cala Galdana is blessed with some stunning natural surroundings that are a delight to explore on foot. The striking cliffs and lush pinetrees form the perfect backdrop to the beach itself, but the most memorable part of the landscape is the Algendar Gorge, a jaw dropping river bed with eighty foot cliffs on either side that provides the keen walker with a wonderful day of walking.

3. The Resort

The resort of Cala Galdana itself is a real delight, balancing a traditional island charm with all the facilities you need to have a superb beach holiday. It has a great selection of bars, beach shops and several excellent fish restaurants. Close by, the horseshow at nearby Club Escola Menorquina is worth a special mention as one of the best nights out for a holiday in Cala Galdana. Events are held on a Wednesday and Sunday evening where visitors are treated to a spectacular display of local horsemanship.

2. The Villas

While there are plenty of hotels and apartments in the resort, the villas in Cala Galdana offer the best accommodation options – indeed, the villas here are perhaps the best on the island. Their quality is matched by their diversity, and whether you want a luxury residence or just the basics, a sprawling villa large enough to hold several families or a small romantic getaway, you are sure to be able to find a Cala Galdana villa to suit your needs.

1. The Beach

Without a doubt, the beach is the ultimate highlight of Cala Galdana. The villas, nearby attractions, natural beauty and local hospitality are all very well, but the stunning beach is the real draw for visitors. The soft sand slopes gently into calm blue waters, all framed by the dramatic backdrop of steep rocky cliffs. This picture postcard horseshoe bay is, quite simply the best beach in Menorca, and one of the most beautiful in Europe. Stunning to look at, wonderful for sunbathing and swimming, and with peaceful waters that are perfect for children; Menorca beaches don’t get better than this.
