Buying shoes can be so much fun. Those little adorable shoes for children are enough to make you want to buy them just to look at, never mind the practicality.

Online shoe shopping is even more fun because there are no heavy bags to lug around. That being said, shopping for shoes online also presents a level of uncertainty. Fit, quality, and secure transactions rank at the top of the list for online shopping concerns.

To make your next online shoe shopping experience a positive one, let’s explore a few tips and strategies.

Listen to The Better Business Bureau

Is the site you’re shopping at secure? Unsure? Take a look at the URL if it begins with the following letters, HTTPS, then you can know you’re shopping at a secure site. The S stands for secure.

Keep all registration passwords secure to protect yourself from phishing and identity theft.

What is the store’s privacy policy? It should be listed somewhere on their site. Make sure they’re not profiting by selling or renting your personal information.

Are the shipping and return policies apparent and fair? Store policies should be easily accessible and readily available to anyone interested. If you cannot find the stores shipping and return policies get them in writing before you place an order.

Always keep your receipts. Often times a store will say they’ll email you a receipt. Don’t count on that. Receipts can get lost in your email junk folder and lost forever. Print a copy of your receipt and keep it safe – just in case.

Research the Retailer

Before you become a customer at a store you’re unfamiliar with, spend a few minutes searching online for store reviews. You may also check the Better Business Bureau to see if any issues have been reported.

What brands and designers does the store carry? If they represent brands and designers with a reputation for quality, that’s a good sign. Check to make sure the shoes run true to size.

How Well Are the Shoes Described?

It’s delightful when a retailer provides a wealth of information about the shoes, the materials, care information and even where they are made.

Presumably you wouldn’t buy a pair of shoes without a picture – after all that’s half the fun of buying shoes. Make sure there is at least one accurate picture of the item you’re comparing and considering. A retailer that allows you to zoom in on a particular shoe image is even better! .

Know Your Child’s Shoe Size

While most children’s shoes are sized fairly consistently, shoes come in varying sizes depending on where they are made, the designer, and the country they’re being sold in.

While most children’s shoe sizes tend to run fairly consistently, it’s important to know your child’s measurements so you can make sure you’re purchasing the correct size. Shoes can be sized in inches, millimeters and centimeters and sized as U.S., U.K., European, Mexico, Japan and even U.K. Australia.

Know your child’s shoe size take advantage of easy to use conversion charts found online.

If you’re uncertain about how your child’s shoe size translates to the brand and make of the shoes you’re looking at, order a half to a whole size larger. That way they at least have room to grow.

Shopping online for children’s shoes is more than fun, it’s a great way to save time and money. Take the time to protect yourself and do your research before sharing your personal information with a new retailer. You’ll be glad you did and your online shoe shopping experience will be a positive one.
