This past holiday season, I splurged and bought myself a Keurig coffee maker.

After reading so many great reviews of the machine, as well as having the opportunity to see the brewer in action at a friend's house, I decided that I had to have one for myself.

Do you enjoy drinking gourmet coffee? Would you like to brew a cup of great java, faster than you can toast a slice of bread?

If so, you'll love the Keurig. I've used it every single day since I bought it.

Now, you've probably seen the television commercials, but if not, I'll give you the scoop on how it works.

For starters, the Keurig brewer is a single serve machine -- meaning, it dispenses your beverage one hot cup at a time.

It does this by using proprietary pods, called K-Cups.

The K-Cups are little sealed receptacles that sort of resemble creamer containers. Each contains a premeasured amount of ground coffee.

The pods are available in over two hundred different flavors and varieties of coffee, tea, and cocoa. (I prefer Newman's Extra Bold.)

Simply fill the water tank, drop the pod into the holder, place your mug on the drip tray, and hit the Start button. Within thirty seconds, you've got yourself a hot, delicious cuppa joe.

It's really that simple. There are no filters to fool around with, no glass carafes to clean (or break), no beans to grind, no grounds to measure.

Just press a button and go.

In my experience, using a Keurig coffee maker is by far the easiest way to brew great tasting coffee in the comfort of your home. (I use a French press on the weekends -- tastes great but involves more effort.)

Keurig kitchen brewers are available in several different models. The B40 Elite is the entry level machine, and happens to be the one I own. It's a stripped down version of the higher-priced models, offering two brew sizes and a limited range of features, but it more than meets my needs.

The Keurig B60 Special Edition is their most popular model, and includes more brew sizes and features such as customizable temperature settings.

The Keurig B70 is at the head of the class, providing yet more brew sizes (including a travel mug size), a programmable LCD display, and a larger capacity water tank than all of the other machines.

They've even rolled out a miniature version -- the B30 Mini. The compact size makes it a smart pick for dorm rooms, vacation homes, cabins, boats, and home offices.

In spite of these differences, any of the Keurig brewers would be ideal for grabbing a quick cup of joe as you head out to work, or for entertaining guests -- anyone can choose a K-Cup flavor and be served a hot cup within seconds.

With that said, however, I don't think I'll be revealing my Keurig coffee maker at our next dinner party.

I enjoy it so much I want to keep it all to myself.
