The unexpected comes occasionally and when it does, it shocks you senseless. If you saw everything recorded in your home or office outdoor security system, can you forgive the culprit and forget the whole episode?

When It's Family

You happened to be alerted by your outdoor security system and you rush to view your PC screen. Lo and behold, you are seeing with your own eyes, your teenaged daughter in a Rapunzel mode, slithering down a makeshift rope. She's sneaking out thinking you're asleep and can't be bothered with the alarm from your outdoor security system. You rush out and catch her in the nick of time, and the fight begins.

Or you casually glanced at the innocent office PC and caught your teenaged son helping himself to the cash stowed in your drawer. The nerve! You call him and give him a rude tongue lashing. He explains that he needed the money and cannot wait for your return, so there. You grit your teeth and warn him not to leave the house but your outdoor security system squeals on him. When you reach home, the fight begins.

You have told your wife repeatedly never to open the door to strangers. There. She's at it again; she's talking to a stranger and the door is wide open! You fume and rage at her audacity. You call her to remind her, and the fight begins. When a trust is violated, it is difficult to restore it. It may take awhile before you can forgive everyone and forget everything. Your consistence, however, will jolt everybody to the reality that you're not giving up on them and you're not disabling your indoor or outdoor security system. It is still business as usual for you.

Your teenaged daughter may resent your interference and this feud may drag on for a while. Instead of picking on her, let her know your fears for her safety and reputation and arrange for an agreeable system. Sounds easy right? Fact is this will the hardest battle of all. Teens can be stubborn than mules because they don't see the issue from your point of view.

Your teenaged son perhaps needs an increased allowance. Give him the pleasure but outline what the family has to give up so he can have those extra dollars. He'll get the drift but continue to monitor his movements in and out of the house. You'll your indoor and outdoor security system working harder to keep your family safe and your kids disciplined with a firm but loving hand.
