Mike Allred

Have you ever had a dream you just couldn't achieve, no matter how hard you tried? Well, I did. My dream in high school and college was to be a writer. A fiction writer. I had fantasies of becoming a 'published author.' But... it just wasn't meant to be.

The simple truth was... I didn't have the talent for writing fiction. My fiction writing just didn't make the grade. Over time I finally realized just how bad my fiction writing was, after receiving a continual stream of rejection letters from editors who just didn't see the genius in my various fiction masterpieces.

Many of these rejection letters had notes attached saying, "Don't give up your day job Mike. Good Luck. Sincerely, The Editor."

Then, years later on one fateful day, I picked up a copy of Writer's Digest while browsing through a book store. One of the articles inside was about writing non-fiction how-to books and how-to articles. Suddenly, it was like a light-bulb was turned on in my mind. Surely I had enough talent to write simple how-to-do-it books.

In writing how-to books, articles, and reports, I discovered the enjoyment of a new writing genre. It was perfect for me. In the months to come, my simple little self-published books and reports started selling, and selling well!

My first book was on how to do glass engraving on auto windows. That book sold several hundred copies worldwide from a small classified ad in Popular Mechanics magazine.

It was the first of many how-to books I wrote over the years. Then, one day I realized I hadn't given up my dream. I could honestly say I was a writer. I was actually making money from the little books I had written and self-published.

And the lesson here for you is... Don't abandon your dreams of being a writer. Don't give up your dreams simply because your fiction isn't up to professional publishing standards. And stop thinking you don't have any writing talent. You do. Anyone, and I mean anyone, can write an interesting and potentially moneymaking how-to-do-it book.

Do you realize that right now, at this very moment, you are an expert in some particular subject? You have the knowledge and life experience that would be perfect in a how-to book. You have job skills, hobby knowledge, and what you've learned from your life experiences would be of value to others.

Writing how-to-do-it books isn't rocket science. Anyone can do it. That's not hype. It's the truth. And if I can do it, you can do it!

Look, I'm just an average guy with no special gift for writing (as you can see). I drive a Jeep Wrangler, have an overweight dog that sleeps twenty hours a day, and a loving wife who overlooks my many failings. I'm your Mr. Average Guy. And if I can write, you can write.

Writing and selling how-to books can be a moneymaking, enjoyable, and fun part-time home business you can do at home.

There's a goldmine of knowledge between your ears. Now it's up to you to mine the riches of that knowledge and experience. So what are you waiting for? It's time to stop dreaming and start writing. Begin today.
