Situated on a volcanic island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, Hawaii is actually an archipelago made up from hundreds of small islands spaced out over nearly 2,500 kilometers. It is nearly 3,750 kilometers south of the North American Continent and is one of the only two states that are not part of that block. Hawaii became a part of the United States in 1959 and is one of the few states that does not allow public wagering in any form to take place.

This does not mean that you will not find gambling in Hawaii, it means that any form of gambling for money you will not find there. Gambling in a social environment is actually legal and like most of the World, Texas Hold’em poker has become increasingly popular with the local population, both male and female alike. Bingo is also a great favorite in the Hawaiian Islands and despite the fairly stringent rules regarding the extent of its legality, there is usually always a social gathering to be found. The basic limitations are that money should never change hands, and all games have to be played for enjoyment only. Hawaiians have embraced these rules reluctantly but being a people that enjoy a good get together you will often find a rousing game of poker going with the younger crowd while the older folk prefer bingo held on Friday or Saturday nights at local churches and the social clubs.

When you consider the vast potential that there would be for casino gambling in Hawaii, you would consider that these laws would be outmoded in the 21st century and there is a strong push amongst the million and one quarter population of Hawaii to legalize gambling on the islands, especially when almost 60% of the state’s total income comes from tourism. To set the ball rolling for gambling in Hawaii, the hopes are that cruise ships that already arrive at the islands will be allowed to open the doors of their on board casinos to either the locals or visiting tourists. The hope is that if this first tentative step is successful, then the local legislators will see the vast potential to bring a great source of income to the islands and further increase their tourist industry traffic. This they can do by building casinos in the existing hotels or open luxurious casino resorts. There is sure to be no shortage of experienced casino operators who will be ready to invest in establishing Hawaii’s gambling industry.

In the meantime, the Hawaiians always have the opportunity of playing their favorite table games and slots online, as well as taking part in one of the many Texas hold’em poker tournaments taking place around the clock at the different online casinos. These online casinos are actually better than the real thing some say, and at least you can play in the comfort and security of your own Hawaiian home, whenever you want. That’s certainly not a location I would scoff at – island breezes, homemade daiquiris and a view of the ocean as I play online craps? Definitely better than any smoggy Vegas casino in my opinion!
