Valentine's Day: The Cutest Symbols

February 14, is generally considered all over the world as the festival of love and lovers send cards and give flowers to their sweetie. However, we know almost nothing about Valentine's Day origins: people generally assume that its source lies in Lupercalia that are feasts Romans observed each year in honor of Lupercus, the god of herds and fields (celebrations of purification, resurrection and fertility), that took place around mid-February. It is also commonly said that Prince Charles of Orleans sent love letters on February 14th to Mary of Cleves at the time he was prisoner in England. Another belief is that on February 14th birds begin to mate at the approach of the Spring.

Actually Valentine's Day is known for centuries and there is a medieval tag that says:

"Bleeding of Valentine's Day
Makes blood clear night and day
And bleeding the day before
Preserves from fever all year long"
