You are sure to have heard the foot-tapping well-known song called Rocky Top, which goes “Good ol’ Rocky Top, rocky Top Tennessee”. The song itself is a part of the state’s official songs besides six others although the latter apply to different hub-pages of Tennessee.

We are talking about the same Tennessee which is home to many different things like the ‘Great Smoky Mountains’, Dollywood, dogwoods, the Grand ole Opry, the Cornbread Festival, grits and taters. Tennessee also boasts of things such as the moonshine stills, the Old Mill, the University of Tennessee

Volunteers and the Harley Davidson motorcycle boots besides many others.

It so happens that the same University of Tennessee Volunteers have also adopted the Rocky top song as their informal song for fight. And everyone is to scream out ‘Woow’ every time after the words ‘Rocky Top’ recurs.

Let us tell you some more interesting information about the Rocky Top:

The song was written by the Mr. Felice and Mrs. Boudleaux Bryant, songwriters by profession, in 1967. They only took ten minutes to write the whole song. This was an attempt at creating a merry upbeat sort of tune which as a departure from what they were working on during that period of time, namely slow melodious tunes for Archie Campbell and Chet Atkins in Gatlinburg.

The rocky Top song went on to feature in the list of top 40 country music songs on the charts in the beginning the year 1968.

But the song actually reached its most glorious phase when it went on to become a major hit after Lynn Anderson sang it in 1970.

It was in 1967 that the Osborne Brothers first made a record of the song Rocky Top.

Rocky Top the name is a reference to one of the three peaks in eastern Tennessee. This particular peak is located right on the borders of North Carolina and is part of the Thunderhead mountain of the Smoky Mountains.

In 1972 the marching band of the University of Tennessee made this song part of their drills and the song’s fame soared.

In the show ‘Mickey’s Winter Wonderland’ by Disneyland of Paris, this foot-tapping number was shown in 2007-2008. And they even had bears performing a dance according to tune.

According to the Atlanta journal-constitution, in 2005 Rocky Top featured at number seven in its list of the 100 ‘Songs of the South’.
