Male pride is rarely a blessing; in fact it has been the downfall of almost every notable man throughout the course of history. Let me give you a few choice examples:

Alexander the Great was one of the greatest military campaigners of all time and is widely regarded to be undefeated in his attempts to conquer most of the known world. Unfortunately he didn’t know when to pack up his tools, admit he had gone far enough and hobble home. In the end after years of constant battle and the thirst to prove himself the leader of the new world, he succumbed to what is widely regarded as alcoholism and died. Typical.

Although hardly a paean of well-meaning politics, another ideal example would be Adolf Hitler’s insistence on pressing his troops on to take Stalingrad, even though it was blatantly obvious to everyone that they weren’t prepared for the vastly colder Russian weather. Needless to say the German army were squarely beaten and all because of Hitler’s male pride preventing him from saying “Actually lads, this might not be such a great idea after all”. As it turns out his idiocy benefited the world and subsequently lead to the Nazis fall, but nevertheless my point holds some truth.

But anyway, the nub of my point is that when it comes to automotive maintenance, men often let their pride get in the way of making sure their cars are in proper working order. The famous last words of “I don’t need to take it to the garage, I can service it myself” has rung in the head of many a man as his pride and joy veers off into a ditch. This phenomenon of utter ineptitude is brought about by male pride and in particular, not wanting to seem subordinate to other males. Some men see taking their car to a garage as an admission of being a lesser being. This, as any rational adult will tell you, is absolutely ridiculous, but then again rationality very rarely comes into the equation when a man’s pride is at stake.

Fortunately for those of us who are safety conscious enough to not try and service our cars by ourselves, the lovely people at Rapid Fit have made the process of taking a car to be serviced as painless as possible. Whilst going in for a service I was made fully aware of what problems had been diagnosed and the appropriate action that was going to be taken. All of this was explained to me in a completely non-condescending manner and I felt genuinely pleased to have been party to the conversation.

The work was carried out as I waited and was done so promptly in the timescale I had been quoted. After the work had been done my car felt like it was back to its former showroom quality glory. I was very happy with the Rapid Fit service and spent the remainder of the day telling all my friends like a teenage girl who had found a simply fabulous new conditioner or something of that ilk.

To all the men (and women) who have pride issues, don’t let them stop you from doing something as simple and easy as popping into Rapid Fit. They are owned by Ford but have the parts and expertise to service virtually any model available in the UK. Whatever you do though, don’t service your car yourself; it is an exploit that is guaranteed to end in tears.
