Internet Marketing – The Information Connection

Did you know that many individuals are making significant income simply by marketing information on the Internet? Did you know that some of these individuals don’t even have to personally create any of that information?

Some individuals have successfully created an information network that relies on the thoughts and expertise of others. For instance a free article directory generally provides their service at no cost to writers who have knowledge in a certain field. That information is considered valuable by article directories so they offer the opportunity to publish your material at no cost to you or to them.

The same is true for many companies that deal specifically with blogs. They may offer free space for bloggers to use.

If these companies are offering their services for free how do they make money?

The short answer is through Pay Per Click (PPC) and banner advertising. If these sites can be viewed as authoritative and offer a wealth of information they will gain an increasingly large share of site visitors. More site visitors mean more advertising clicks. This translates into additional wealth.

Why isn’t everyone doing this?

Again, the short answer is that in order to build a reputation for quality you need significant content. In order to gain significant content you will need to either possess incredible patience or be viewed as an incredibly prestigious location for experts to store informational content.

Is there a strategy to developing this type of business?

One of the best ways to achieve this goal is to work with as many recruited writers as possible. This may mean paying money you may not recoup in the short-term in order to reach a plateau that proves a self-sustaining environment.

I am aware of one gentleman who is working to develop a very intense resource for better ways to do almost anything. In his first six months he has paid hundreds and thousands of dollars to writers to develop a comprehensive list of online guides. On a recent week he received less then $2.00 in PPC revenue.

The good news is this gentleman has developed other sites that rely on content for their sustainability. He is not concerned at this point that his venture may be in trouble. It’s actually developed the way he thought it would. He saved enough capital from other ventures to fund the startup of this new venture.

Do you mean to say this isn’t an immediate income producer?

Anyone who has ever worked with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) knows that it can take time to get noticed and even longer to gain a top ranking. This idea may be a bit like planting a forest knowing there will come a day when there will be significant shade. While you wait you must simply feed and water the trees in the hopes the forest grows to maturity. When fully grown that proverbial forest will attract many visitors and provide reason for many to seek you out.

This idea will require significant attention to behind the scenes details. As you become larger and more established you might find your expectations for content need to change. You may also find that a growing number of exceptionally qualified experts may express an interest in providing content. In other words, the premise that pushes you forward will always be to provide the best content possible. You may find it necessary to raise the quality bar on a regular basis.
