Cosmetic dentistry has evolved and an innovative cosmetic teeth straightening technique can help you put your best smile forward

If you weren’t lucky enough to be born with a set of straight Hollywood starlet pearly whites, there’s no need to despair. Thanks to recent advances in cosmetic orthodontics and cosmetic dentistry, you too can get a confident, beautiful smile that’s envied by others. Maybe you’ve always thought that your teeth could look a lot better if they were straighter, but shied away from having traditional types of braces. Well now, thanks to a unique technique from Invisalign, you can achieve your dream and smile with confidence.

Looking our best matters because when we look good, we feel good. And having a natural smile is one of the things that makes us feel great. Invisalign is an innovative new teeth straightening technique that offers a virtually invisible way to straighten teeth, in as little as 9 to 18 months (depending on the condition of your teeth). Unlike traditional braces (sometimes known as ‘train tracks’), which are bonded to the teeth, Invisalign offers a clear brace technique to straighten teeth, without the need for metal or ceramic brackets and wires. And, best of all, even though it’s one of the latest developments in cosmetic dentistry, Invisalign is similar in price to treatment with metal or ceramic brackets and around half the price of treatment with lingual braces which are fixed to the inside of teeth.

Why should I get braces?

Braces are a totally normal and practically expected part of puberty. Once all of your permanent teeth come in, or even before they all come in, you may find you suffer from crooked, crowded or gappy teeth. You are not alone - many teens have braces. As well as giving you a million dollar smile, there’s a load of other reasons for talking to your doctor about braces:

• Straight teeth and a corrected bite allow you to chew your food better and aid digestion

• Straight teeth are easier to keep clean, which can help you avoid dental problems in future – when teeth are crowded, brushing and flossing can be more difficult.

Ways to keep your smile in top form

As well as straightening your teeth, there are a number of other things you can do to enhance your natural smile:

• Proper hygiene will keep your smile in top form. In addition to daily brushing and flossing, it is best to consult your dental practitioner regularly for professional cleanings and check-ups

• Moderate intake of fluids that can stain or discolour your teeth such as colas, tea and coffee. Likewise, avoid having too many acidic beverages such as citrus juices which can harm tooth enamel.

• Where possible, try to avoid letting sugar stay in your mouth, as it can contribute to tooth decay

• Try to avoid stress: just like citrus fruits, it can bring acid into your mouth, which can attack the tooth enamel

• Avoid smoking: it stains teeth and causes bad breath

• If your teeth are discoloured you can ask your dentist for a whitening treatment in combination with Invisalign
