One of the best things about being in Boracay is that there are so many souvenir shops to feast on. Bargain hunting in Boracay's souvenir shops is something that you should not miss on your trip to the island. Contrary to what most people think, you will find lots of discounted goodies right at the beach. Shopping for pasalubong just couldn't get any better.

What to find in Boracay

If it’s your first time in Boracay, among the usual souvenir items that you might want to have are the shirts. Who would not want some form of memento to wear any day to remind him or her of a truly wonderful island vacation? But when you shop for souvenir clothes in Boracay, don’t limit yourself to t-shirt designs. There are also other fashionable clothing items that you can only find in Boracay.

Accessories are a hip thing in Boracay. You will definitely get overwhelmed by the bracelets and necklaces you can find there. Most of these accessories are beach must-haves as they are made from sea shells creatively put together, to be worn while basking in the Boracay sun. Shades are also a popular commodity in the island. Just make sure that you buy these in bulk so you can avail of group discounts.

Making great deals while shopping

As soon as you set off shopping in Boracay’s tiangge shops, you should also care to think about the prices. Although you are buying in supposedly bargain hotspots on the island, it never hurts to still haggle. After all, that’s what makes shopping more fun. Just think about all the pesos you will be able to save. This is especially easier if you are in Boracay during off-peak seasons. You will be amazed at how much you can haggle for prices because there aren't that many customers around.

However, expect things to get harder when you’re on the island during peak seasons like summer. In this case, you can ask for group discounts instead. The trick here is to shop with somebody or to avail of souvenirs in bulk so you can easily negotiate prices with the vendors.

Also, be on the look out for promos. Promotions extend far better if you have local friends with you on the trip. Upon mention of them being locals, you will be surprised at the discounts you can get. And these discounts can even apply on resort amenities and rates, not just tiangges alone. Usually, Boracay business owners do not explicitly advertise their promos for locals. Be smart enough to ask for local rates and be amazed at the great deals you and your group can get.

When haggling, just make sure you keep it cool and friendly with the vendors. Although it goes a long way for you in terms of saving up, you should learn when to press on and when to stop. Also, keep some of your oozing excitement pent up because that’s a weakness vendors will take against you. If they see how much you like an item, they might not let you haggle even for a single peso.
