A canine is among the most favorite pet of human beings. His sense of duty and loyalty are unparalleled. For instance, your dog stays awake night after night to ensure that you have a sound sleep. Even in the face of danger, when most of your other human friends leave you, he stands by your side at the peril of his life. Such dedication and love needs to be reciprocated and what better way can you do this than by treating your dear friend with some doggie treats. Giving your dog treats also helps to increase your bonding with your canine friend.

A variety of doggie treats are available to cater to your dogs’ different moods. These include crunchy treats, soft treats, dental chews, bone-like treats, freeze-dried treats and other similar delicious items. These delicacies are not a part of your dogs’ staple diet and accordingly you should ensure than they form not more than ten percent of your dogs’ diet. You should therefore bear in mind at all times that these special foods are to keep him happy. Besides, you should select the most apt doggie treats for your dog based on his breed, age, level of activity and health, from amongst the various options available to you.

While selecting doggie treats, you must consider only those products that are made of high quality natural ingredients. These foods generally come in cans or as dry food packets, which require the use preservatives. Hence, keeping the health of your dog in mind, you should select those, which have lower levels of chemical preservatives in them. To minimize your worries regarding the quality of the various treats, opt for those that either meet or exceed the AAFCO standards. Some of these products are also made to fulfill specific nutritional requirements. So, if your dog suffers from a nutrient deficiency you could select a treat for him accordingly. You could consult your pet’s veterinarian to find out which of the several doggie treats available are best for your dogs’ well being.

Giving human food as treats is yet another option. However, if your dog is tempted by all the tasty foods placed on your table, beware! Some of the human foods can even prove fatal for your pet. These include alcoholic beverages, nuts, chocolates, candies, fruits like avocados, grapes and raisins and even onions. If your dog has been recommended a special diet you can delight him with any of the special diet treats available. Experts believe that doggie treats like dental chews aid in promoting the dental health of your pet. Most of the treats are available in a variety of shapes, sizes and flavors, so select one according to your dogs’ inclination. Whatever be your choice always select the size of the treats to match your dogs’ size. You could give him small portions of doggie treats as a reward for his good behavior as well as for instant pleasure during the training sessions.
