As the number of websites on the Internet grows, it is getting harder and harder to grab the attention of the popular search engines. Some keywords such as car or shoes have millions of sites dedicated to the topic. If you are the new guy competing in this market, you can be sure you won't hit the first page of the major search engines. The truth of the matter is, more and more people are now looking to the Internet for information as well. You will find that many people forgo the phone book for the newspaper in favor of the Internet when searching for services or products. For this reason, you have to be on the web and you have to make sure the search engines find you important.

While there is no guaranteed way to reach the first page of the search results with top search engines, there are a few tips and tricks to make sure your customers can find you. If you offer your products and services to specific regions or areas, the best thing you can do is take advantage of local search marketing. Local search marketing is the process of specifically designing your website to target your specific area. For example, if you are in Colorado and you sell cars, your keyword could be Colorado cars rather than simply Colorado or cars. You could even be more specific such as Denver, Colorado cars. If you are an auto dealer in the Denver area, this is the region you should be marketing to in the first place. Targeting a specific region can cut down the number of competitors you face from the millions to the thousands or even hundreds of websites.

The Correct Process

The best way to make sure you are reaching your target audience is to search your own keywords. If you sell dog collars in Florida, then search Florida dog collar. If you are not in the top 10, you need to make some changes. Start with on page optimization. This means adding local keywords like Florida to your web page. You can rename your web pages to include the location or you can include the keyword in your text. Another great tip is adding your address somewhere on each page. This will insure that the search engines know your location. You can also use local directories, such as the yellow pages to list your business and add a link to your web page. Anytime you have links or advertising for your page, you need to make sure the location is included.

In recent studies, it has been discovered that over 700,000,000 local search terms are entered in the search engines every month. This is in the United States alone. In addition, many studies suggest that 30 billion or more local searches will take place next year. If that is not enough to sway you, consider this: over half of the searches that take place in a visit to a local sales counter or store. Imagine if you could reach 1,000 local searchers a month. That could mean 500 new in-store visitors. It is definitely worth the effort. With the competition growing at an alarming rate, using local search marketing is one of the best ways to ensure continued business. Don't pass up this excellent opportunity.

By adding a few local words such as your city, county, state, or country, you could potentially see thousands of new visitors each month. That is a very small amount of work to see such a high return. Very few other techniques on the Internet today can offer you such great results. Local search marketing truly is one of the best ways to get your name noticed in cyber space.
