Paint walls in refreshing colours-colours that you like-don’t use colours just because they are fashionable. You will quickly tire of them and the whole scenario will start again. If you’re home feels cold use warm colours such as reds, yellows and oranges. Homes with plenty of natural light can afford to have darker shades, however if you have a north facing room use light colours to give the illusion of more light and a larger space.

Old worn out carpets should be ripped up and thrown away! Stripped floor boards have been fashionable for quite a while. Rugs can be used to add comfort and colour. Floor boards which are too marked to sand down easily can always be painted in soft pastel colours or cream. This will add unique charm and provide a additional light to a room.

Curtains don’t necessarily have to be replaced if you really like them and they coordinated with your new colour scheme. They can be dry cleaned or washed to freshen them up. Replace tired looking dull net curtains with a stylish Venetian blind. These are great for keeping prying eyes out and letting masses of light in. Tilt the louvers upwards to bounce natural light off a newly painted ceiling to bring even more light into the room. On sunny days stack them to the top of the window and enjoy an uninterrupted view of the outside world!

Likewise if you prefer vertical blinds these also offer great light control and privacy as well as being able to stack to the side of the window recess. Both Venetian and vertical blinds have come a long way from their original office like appearance. You can choose from a vast range of colours and designs-pick a blind which is practical and stylish for your room’s makeover.
