Additionally, 192.168.1.1 is a special Internet Protocol address because it can be used by different computer networks and various individuals at the same scope of time. However, the disadvantage of using this address is that people need to have access on Network Address Translation because before they can use the Internet.

Reminders for Setting the Default Internet Protocol Address to 192.168.1.1

A great number of computer network tools including routers from LinkSys try to set their default Internet Protocol addresses to 192.168.1.1. For such instances, it is possible to experience some problems since it is very difficult to use different devices sharing a single network and Internet Protocol address. In this case, everyone should remember to change the default addresses that computers use before they connect them in a single network.

Request for Comments or also known as RFC defines 192.168.1.1. as one of the addresses that people can use for private use of or access to the Internet. Along with this Internet Protocol address are other addresses within the range of 10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255 and 172.16.0.0 to 172.31.255.255. To identify the series of addresses, RFC point to 10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255 as 24-bit block, 172.16.0.0 to 172.31.255.255 as 20-bit block, and 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255 as 16-bit block.

Meanwhile, RFC allows commercial establishments to use Internet Protocol addresses that are not included in the sets mentioned even without the consent of Internet Assigned Numbers Authority. On the other hand, for commercial establishments who want to acquire any of the private addresses, it is important that they first get the approval of Internet Assigned Numbers Authority. In addition, it is necessary that these establishments that the hosts that they will use can access private addresses, as well as public addresses since a failure to identify and assess the capability of hosts can lead to the creation of invaluable computer networks connectivity.
