Security safes are very useful for all the protection benefits they provide that other locked storages and cabinets cannot achieve. These standard storages may have locks, but can be subjected to heavy damage by cutting, piercing or heating allowing a forced entry in case the key gets lost. Security safes on the other hand are heavily protected to avoid unauthorized forced entries and restrict access to their rightful owners alone. The biggest problem that people may fear is when the key to the safe is missing and contents inside the safe are urgently needed.

While it should be the owner's responsibility to make sure the key doesn't get lost, these problems can occur either on purpose or by accident and the key to the safe is quite small making it easy to lose and difficult to find when lost. If the key was last seen in the house, then do a complete search before thinking of any other ideas.

If the key cannot be found, then don't bother by beating the safe with a hammer or attempting to cut through it because safes are built to resist those kinds of forces. However, you can rest assured that all is not lost because locksmiths can save the day no matter what safe you own. Now you might be thinking that all safes are vulnerable to forced entries, but the strength and quality of the safe doesn't tell whether it can be opened or not by safecracking, but specifically how long the process is to open the safe. Don't worry about thieves taking advantage of this because safes can take up to 45 gruelling minutes to unlock by an expert locksmith and thieves won't have the patience for that sort. Of course, you have to pay the locksmith to get it opened, but it should be possible for any expert to accomplish because all key safes can be opened with that method.

If you can't find a locksmith around your area, try reading your manual and Q&A sections or search for alternate ways to open the safe if the key is lost. Some tutorials have detailed instructions on how to open your safe yourself using standard tools like crowbars and screwdrivers. This depends on the manufacturer of your key safe so don't expect all manuals to have a method. Manufacturers constantly emphasize that the key really shouldn't be lost in the first place. Don't forget to keep your manual in a safe spot so the methods of breaking in are not exposed to unwanted people who may seek interest in your safe.

No matter what safe you own, it is never the end of the world if you lose the key. It will however cost you a lot of time in getting the safe open whether you do it yourself or ask a locksmith to do it for you so make sure you don't lose the key as the safe becomes completely useless without it. If keeping track of a small key is too tough, consider getting a combination locked safe instead.
