A woman's wedding is one of the most important and special days of her life. Everything should be perfect. The right jewelry can really make your dress perfect, but unfortunately, too many women only think about the ring. Waiting until the last minute to pick your bridal jewelry is not a good idea. Another idea that isn't good is picking jewelry that you wear that one amazing day, then you don't look at again until your daughter is about to get married. Too many women go through their lives only wearing one thing they wore on their wedding day: their wedding ring. If you are going to pick the perfect jewelry, get something you will want to wear on special occasions in the future.

Your dress and jewelry should match you. Don't allow yourself to be forced to buy a dress someone else likes, and don't let your family force your great-grandmother's jewelry on you if you don't like it. This is your day, so you should be the one calling the shots.

When picking your jewelry, look for something you really, really love. Don't settle on something that you 'kinda like.' Keep in mind that you are not only paying good money for this jewelry, it will be in your wedding photos forever. You don't want to look back and wish you'd bought something else. You don't want dampers like that on your wedding day memories. Trust me.

One thing to look for is jewelry in sets, to make sure you have matching earrings and bracelet to go with your necklace. Think about your dress, and what is going to be the best style to go with it. There are many options, but some options may be better for a certain look than others.

If you have a modern dress, such as a halter-top or mermaid style, there is a plethora of chic jewelry to go with it. Circles are very popular right now, along with other geometric shapes. You can buy jewelry that has a single pendant on it, or that has a single shape, such as a circle, repeated many times on one pendant. Another look that has gained some popularity is to buy jewelry that has no stones or gems on it. Plain metal can lend a very different look to your bridal outfit. Plain metal also provides more options for re-wearing the jewelry later on. You can get really creative when looking for modern jewelry. Nobody can tell you that you can't wear certain jewelry with a modern dress. It's your look, make it all yours.

The biggest thing to keep in mind with a medieval style dress is to pick jewelry that will match it. There have been brides who get an older-style dress, then try to couple it with modern, chic jewelry. It doesn't work, and you will forever regret the incongruence. Chains of flowers, or jewelry set with semi-precious stones can be reminiscent of times long past.

If you have a Victorian or very classic styled dress, there are many pieces of jewelry that are made specifically for these styles. Victorian styles have made a massive resurgence in the past few years, bringing the regal look of its jewelry with it. Much of Victorian style jewelry has color in it, which can make a gorgeous contrast to your dress.

Keep in mind also that if you opt for a very old-fashioned dress with a high collar, you don't have to forego having jewelry. Brooches are becoming very popular again, and beautiful ones can be found with a little searching.

Strapless dresses are a good time to wear something that brings attention to your shapely collarbone and shoulders. Chokers create a fabulous look with strapless dresses. If you get the right one, chokers can also look great with halter-top dresses. This is great, because some hanging necklaces can look odd next to the halter neckline. If you have a halter-top, take a couple minutes to really picture where your dress will be in relation to the necklace. This may keep you from buying the wrong thing.

Simple dresses may actually have the most choices when it comes to jewelry. As long as you love the combination, you really can't go wrong. If your dress has few embellishments and mostly clean lines, with no frills or ruffles, then there are a couple looks that are popular. One is to couple the dress with simple jewelry. This may mean a necklace with one pendant, or a necklace made entirely of interlocking flowers, or links. This is great for the bride who likes things low key, and feels the minimal finery is fitting to her personality. This is great to wear with light makeup for a more natural look, and when using your hairstyle to draw attention to your face.

The other popular look to have with a simple dress is an opulent necklace that is meant to draw more attention than the dress. These include necklaces with many pendants, or complex nets of metal or jewels that cover much of the chest and perhaps neck as well. Bracelets can be found that match, along with earrings. These kinds of jewelry take the focus away from the dress, and focus attention on your skin. The necklace can be used in conjunction with your hairstyle to frame your face.

If you get a dress that has some color to it, you are sure to be able to find jewelry that matches. There are plenty of styles that will not only match your favorite color on your dress, but will also inspire you to wear it with other outfits in the future.

Please do keep in mind that these are just suggestions. There are thousands of styles of jewelry out there, and plenty of viable options for every bride. You are the best person to pick what accessories match you and your dress. But when you find a set of jewelry you like, ask yourself if you will wear it again. It is a great feeling to wear your wedding-day jewelry on a special occasion, and allow yourself to relive some memories from one of the best days of your life.
