Whether you are a parent or you have children in your life that you want to nurture and grow, you will find that one of the first steps that you can with this is purchasing them the right toys. Play is an important part of even a young child's day and in many ways, it will foster habits and thought patterns that will stay with the child through the rest of their lives. In many cases, there has been a general outcry against toys that promote lazy thinking or that can be perceived as stifling a child's creativity. On the other hand, though, keep in mind the fact that there are plenty of toys that will nurture it as well! When you are looking to expand your child's creativity, there are plenty of options to consider.

Remember that when you are thinking about expanding a child's creative life that in many ways, it means getting back to the basics. Electronic toys and handheld video game systems have their place, but when it comes to stimulating a child's urge to grow and to build, you can't go wrong with building blocks. Do you remember how much fun it was to build huge cities out of blocks and to create roads and lots of other forms? With building blocks, a child is able to use their imagination to build things up. While they can't build real buildings, they can certainly create things that look very similar, and they can use their imaginations to fill in the rest.

When looking at blocks, remember that more than just a child's imagination will receive a workout. One thing that blocks will certainly do is give a child a better sense of spatial awareness and muscular coordination. This can go a long way towards helping them develop more thoroughly and it can generally improve their ability to understand the world around them. When they build a tower that leans too much to one side, they will see that it will fall more easily than it will if they build it straight up. This is something that small children do not necessarily grasp instinctively and you will find that blocks can help them learn this. Blocks also encourage more finger dexterity and just picking them up and putting them down can help their muscles develop.

Building blocks have been a part of children's development for hundreds of years. Though it is impossible to pinpoint the first time a child was given blocks of wood and told to entertain themselves, we can at least trace the iconic Alphabet nursery building blocks back to the late 17th century. The philosopher John Locke was of the opinion that blocks with the letter of the alphabet on them would give a child an early recognition of letters and foster in them an association between reading and enjoyment. Small children can certainly appreciate the way the blocks fit together, while older children can work on fitting together the letters into words that they recognize. A good choice is a set of cardboard blocks.

Play furniture is another great option for young children. Have you ever noticed how small children look on regular furniture? Think about how charming it would be to give them a set of furniture that is sized precisely to them! In many ways, this can have them thinking ahead to what they would be like as adults, and this type of imagination and playing pretend is ideal when you are looking at moving forward and getting the right kind effect for your beloved little one. Whether they are playing house, imagining going to work, or simply sitting comfortably and drawing, you will find that this is something that can go a long way towards their development.

Remember that play is an important part of any child's life. While you help a child out a great deal with things like lessons and tutors, don't forget that kids are learning all the time and that some of it should be independent. Getting a small child toys that will really encourage their creativity is doing them a favor that will last the rest of their life!
