In this day and age, with the American economy the way it is, many small business owners are worried about how their individual business will be able to withstand the throes of a weakened economy. And small business owners aren't the only ones who are worried. When the economy is slow, it means that people aren't buying. And when people aren't buying goods, businesses suffer and people get laid off because there isn't enough money to pay them. Take a look at bigger businesses such as Circuit City, which had to lay off all of its employees in the United States. Business owners worry about how much worse things will get before it gets better.

Not all businesses are suffering, however. In fact, many are thriving. For instance, due to companies having to cut back on spending and having to save money, many are finding that they can do so by turning towards their marketing departments. Marketing is one area that is thriving in a depressed economy. People are seeing the value in marketing and are turning towards things such as Internet marketing to keep their businesses afloat. Internet marketing is valuable because not only is it significantly cheaper than other marketing forms, but there are so many things that can be done with it!

Internet marketing can include anything from blogging to the use of social networking sites to website redesign and integration of blogs onto websites. Perhaps one of the main reasons that Internet marketing has become such a viable option over other forms of media such as television, radio, magazines and newspaper is the fact that so many of us use the Internet on a daily basis. If you think about it, if you miss your favorite show, chances are you can watch it online later that night or the next day. Feel like chatting with a friend? There are programs for that such as Facebook, Skype or AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). Knowledge is at your fingertips as you can literally look just about anything up on the Internet. References can be checked, books can be read and reminder notes can be written.

Face it, Americans live their lives online. Still don't believe me? Look around at most of your favorite eating spots. It started off with a couple of coffee shoppes, but now even McDonalds has gotten into the swing of things with free WiFi for those with a laptop. All of this being said, this is a great time for those who are into Internet marketing. It makes sense to have marketing where people spend the most time: on the Internet. No doubt, the Internet has proven to be a revolutionary tool for all of us in some way. In a lot of cases, people can now get in touch with friends and families via the Internet faster than they would trying to place a phone call. Checking multiple email accounts two- sometimes three or more times a day is not unusual for most people. If you need to check the status of tickets to a show or the price on an outfit, you can now do it with a couple of clicks of your mouse.
