Here we go with Big Fat Lie Number One: Is your company and upline telling you that your product or service is exclusive? Don't be mislead by product exclusivity. When I was looking for a company (and now companies) to become involved with, I definitely wanted a product that was exclusive, to a point. But understand that there must be something somewhat similar out there already otherwise the company would have no idea regarding the marketability of the products/services without looking at timing and trends in the respective industry.

I've heard people tell me before that what they were selling could not be purchased anywhere else in the world. Their ingredients were from deep within the rain forests and were originally discovered by the walla-walla tribe centuries ago. Or, here's another one.

Our company has this phenomenal lab overseas with world-renowned scientists that have been formulating miracle ingredients. It's all hype and honestly no-one really cares so you shouldn't either. All you want to be certain of is that your product cannot be purchased at every corner drugstore or Wally-mart store in the country. Yes there will be unique benefits to your product and that's exactly what I looked for.

But understand that a little competition is healthy.

For starters, the fact that you actually have competitors is a very obvious sign that you have a product or service that has a target market large enough that it can support all the different competitors vying for market-share. Competition indicates that your particular product/service is in demand, and has probably maintained a demand for a substantial amount of time. Isn't it great to know that your service or product is not a fad? Isn't it good to know that there is a huge consumer base out there that has a true want, need and desire for what you have? And not only will they want what you have but a very large percentage of them will be long-time customers.

Here's another great side to competition. It forces manufacturers to always be looking for ways to improve their service and products. How good is that? You can be rest-assured that your company is on top of the market and is always checking out the competition and is listening to consumer feed back from those who use their own products. If you are with a company that does not do this, you'll find out quick enough because they won't be around for very long.

Ask yourself these questions when evaluating your current business or business ventures to come: Have you ever seen this product before? Does this service sound eerily familiar? If you have seen or heard of your product before, that is not a deal-breaker. Keep going. This is just the beginning of your search.

Conduct your own due diligence or seek out help from others, both in the industry and those NOT in the industry so you can get the entire gamut of information. Determine if there is a true market for the product/service. If you are comfortable on the internet you can conduct your own research in one evenings.

Just remember that competition is a good thing. It is what keeps businesses strong. The fact that competition exists in your industry and mine merely shows that there is a true opportunity to profit. Stop trying to find a market with no competition because it really doesn't exist. Even patents ultimately can't stop competition. So get excited and start competing.
