Newquay is one of the most popular resorts in Cornwall, and offers the perfect location for a self-catering holiday. Below are 10 easy steps to ensure your self-catering holiday in Newquay goes perfectly.

Accommodation

Newquay offers all kinds of self-catering accommodation, from fabulous beachfront apartments to secluded farmhouse retreats. Make sure that your accommodation can cater comfortably for the size of your party and if you have young children, check the availability of features such as stair-gates and high-chairs to save you from having to bring your own.

Getting about

There is plenty to see and do within the town itself, but the surrounding countryside also offers lots of opportunities for exploration and entertainment. Public transport is available, but it’s best to bring your own vehicle if you are planning to journey further afield. There are also plenty of cycle routes and paths, so it might be an idea to take the bicycles as well!

Entertainment

Newquay is a thriving, vibrant town with plenty of nightlife and an exciting club scene. For families with younger children, Newquay Zoo offers a wonderful day out and the award-winning Eden Project is only a short drive away from Newquay. If you’re looking for a beach holiday, Newquay has sandy beaches and safe bathing areas, but do check the flags on the beaches as they will indicate clearly which areas are safe to swim in.

Surfing

Newquay is best known for its surf culture and is a Mecca for surfers from all over the country. During the summer it plays host to some of the most prestigious surfing competitions in Europe and there are several surfing schools offering tuition to beginners of any age. Equipment hire is readily available so if you haven’t tried riding the waves before, a self-catering holiday in Newquay is the ideal opportunity to experience this fun sport.

Self-catering supplies

The beauty of self-catering holidays in Newquay is that you have the chance to taste some of the best, fresh produce in the country. Cornwall has an enviable reputation for its produce and a self-catering holiday gives you the opportunity to try a selection of the best for yourself. The town has plenty of independent shops as well as high street supermarkets, all fully stocked with everything you’ll need for your stay.

Family holidays

Newquay is very much a family orientated destination and much of the self-catering accommodation is designed for family groups. The town offers a traditional ‘seaside’ holiday experience and is perfect for young families. The fact that no flying is involved in reaching the destination from other areas of the UK means that it’s a less stressful location to reach, particularly if you have very young children in your party.

Stag and Hen weekends

Because of its vibrant nightlife, Newquay is a popular destination for Stag and Hen weekends. Self-catering accommodation is ideal for a group break, and the town offers plenty of locations all within walking distance of the club scene and pubs. For a more private celebration, self-catering accommodation in a remote farmhouse or barn conversion may offer a more intimate break without the worry of disturbing your neighbours!

Romantic breaks for two

Newquay and the surrounding countryside are the perfect locations for a romantic break for two, and self-catering accommodation means that your break can be a tranquil one. A walk along the beach or a visit to the many restaurants and inns in the area make self-catering holidays in Newquay the ideal getaway for a little privacy and romance.

Eating out

The beauty of a self-catering holiday in Newquay is that you are not tied to hotel meal times or menus. However, if you don’t fancy cooking every night, there are plenty of excellent, award-winning restaurants and bistros to choose from. Local produce is fresh and of very high quality and because of its location Newquay’s seafood restaurants serve some of the freshest fish available.

Best time to visit

If you have to work around school holidays, your choice to time to visit may be limited to the school breaks, but Newquay is an all-year-round destination and is even busy during the winter months. Self-catering holidays in Newquay give you more flexibility in your holiday timetable and if you are looking for a more relaxing break it may be wiser to choose an out-of-season period to visit.
