After one of the coldest winters in 20 years, a credit crunch that’s frozen the economy and daily doom and winter gloom in the news, most people are in desperate need of a little good news. As the first shoots of spring are showing, Easter cottage breaks in Devon and Cornwall are the ideal way to blow away the winter cobwebs and give you a boost.

Devon and Cornwall are two of the most popular destinations in the UK and are perfect for self-catering cottage breaks. The entire region is filled with beautiful cottages of all sizes – from fisherman’s cottages on the wild north coast to traditional Devon longhouses in the lush valleys around Exmoor that can easily cater for large family parties. Whatever your family size or requirements, there’s bound to be a cottage holiday to suit. Most cottage holiday providers are also dog friendly, so even the family pet can have a break away.

Cottage breaks are also budget-friendly. By planning your holiday carefully, you can make the most of every penny whilst still enjoying the very best that the Southwest has to offer. The standard of cottages in Devon and Cornwall is exceptionally high and while the roof may be thatched and the walls hundreds of years old, the interiors are often a subtle blend of traditional and contemporary design. All properties come fully stocked with the latest modern white goods and equipment.

If you love the outdoors, a cottage break is an ideal base for an activity holiday. The south west has a huge range of facilities and activities, whether it’s an angling trip to fish some of the best salmon and trout rivers in England or more adventurous sports such as rock climbing and kayaking. A cottage holiday gives you the flexibility to enjoy your activities without being tied to hotel timetables and menus, and a relaxing bath at the end of the day in a cosy cottage is the perfect way to unwind after a hectic time enjoying yourself!

The tourist industry is one of the biggest employers in Devon and Cornwall, so competition to attract visitors is fierce. That means that, with the current economic situation a major factor in everyone’s plans, there are plenty of bargains to be found particularly early in the year. The school holidays are obviously a popular time for family visits and most attractions open their doors to cater for the Easter break trade, but if you book early you can still find a cottage that will suit your needs for a price that also suits your budget.

Springtime in Devon and Cornwall is quite simply beautiful, with entire valleys filled with daffodils, crocuses and vast expanses of bluebell woods. A simple walk through these magnificent and unspoilt settings is often enough to give your spirits the lift they need and to blow away the winter blues. Cottage holidays give you the freedom to explore new places, experience the warm Westcountry welcome, try some of the finest local produce and generally spring clean your life.
