Do you remember the saying that one apple a day will keep the doctor away? Well, current research showed that one apple is simply not enough.

According to the National Cancer Institute, you need to adopt a diet high in vegetables and fruits. More specifically, leading authorities like the United States Department of Agriculture state that you need to eat at least 5 servings of vegetables and fruits everyday if you want to maintain your health. It’s a very important choice that you can make.

Natural Defenses against Sickness

Vegetables and fruits will help to reduce the risk of diseases because they contain a lot of nutrients. They’re packed with Vitamins A and C, minerals such as calcium and potassium, fiber, and other important components to fight cancer.

Because they’re naturally low in fat and calories, vegetables and fruits should be a part of your balanced diet. And since they don’t have cholesterol, they can also reduce the risk of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.

Increasing Intake of Fruits and Vegetables

Fitting in vegetables and fruits into your daily diet is not really difficult. Just try the following:

- Eat at least one food rich in Vitamin A (found in apricots, papayas, mangoes, melons, tomatoes, pumpkins, and carrots).

- Eat one food rich in Vitamin C (like broccoli, cabbage, spinach, and orange).

- Eat one high-fiber food (such as broccoli, cauliflower, beans, and berries).

- Eat vegetables from the cabbage family (examples are kale, Brussels sprouts, and kohlrabi).

The Cabbage Soup Dieting Plan

If you want to train yourself to eat vegetables and fruits everyday and you also want to lose weight at the same time, then Cabbage Soup Diet is the right program for you. It can kick off the start of your healthy eating habit in just 7 days.

The premise of this diet is to eat unlimited cabbage soup within a week. Not only that, you can also eat a variety of vegetables and fruits varying every day.

There are a lot of recipes for the soup all over the internet. Here is one version of a simple Cabbage Soup Diet Plan:

Day One – Eat unlimited soup and any fruit except for bananas. Also drink plenty of unsweetened tea or water.

Day Two – Eat all the vegetables as much as you can, except for corn, dried beans, or peas. You may have a baked potato for dinner, but do not eat any fruit.

Day Three – Eat your soup with vegetables and fruits. However, don’t eat baked potato on this day.

Day Four – Eat 8 bananas and then drink unlimited skim milk together with your soup.

Day Five – Eat 6 fresh tomatoes and 6 ounces of good beef (up to 3 portions only) with your soup. You may substitute the beef with skinless chicken. Make sure you drink water (about 6-8 glasses).

Day Six – Eat unlimited vegetables with your soup. You may consume beef (3 servings) again, but you may substitute it with broiled fish (one serving only). Don’t eat potatoes on this day.

Day Seven – Eat any vegetable with your soup except potatoes. You may also take brown rice and unsweetened fruit juice.
