Everyone knows that the Cotswolds are famous all over the world for their beauty and attractiveness. But even within this area there are a number of gardens that are well worth visiting. They are like jewels among the crown of the Cotswolds – and they might provide inspiration for your own garden as well!

Sudeley Castle is perhaps one of the most stunning of all of them. It is located not far from Winchcombe, so if you are staying in our holiday property Stone Cottage you will be just a short trip away from this majestic castle. Blacksmith’s Cottage is also just a stone’s throw away.

As for the gardens themselves, there are plenty of them! The castle boasts more than half a dozen separate gardens to appreciate and enjoy, including the delightfully named Secret Garden, which as the name suggests is hidden from view until you walk into it.

You can also view the White Garden, resplendent with nothing but an array of white flowers; and you also enjoy the Wildflower Walk, which leads you on a wonderfully scented stroll around the castle grounds.

Speaking of a Secret Garden, there is another garden in the northern part of the Cotswolds which is also fondly known as the Secret Garden. This is the Batsford Arboretum, which began life in the 17th century. Those who have the right degree of knowledge will see that many of the trees and shrubs come from the Far East.

From pines to oaks and right through to a range of acers, every gardener will love to browse the collection of plants, trees and shrubs that is open for viewing. And even if you aren’t a gardener you might just feel compelled to start once you have paid a visit!

Hidcote Manor is another sight not to be missed. Situated near Chipping Campden, you will be just a short distance away from it if you stay in our superbly decorated and furnished Thatched Cottage, which is Grade II listed.

The Manor itself offers one of the most revered gardens throughout the region, and indeed the country as well. Some of the trails are designed to be enjoyed by the whole family too, so even the kids will enjoy a visit to the property during your holiday to the Cotswolds. One of the interesting things about this particular place is that the gardens are arranged into rooms, so you can wander between them to get a taste of lots of different types of planting.

If you like the idea of visiting a watermill garden, don’t miss the Mill Dene Garden at Blockley. Apart from the Mill Pond, you can also enjoy strolling around the North Garden and the Fruit Garden among other areas.

And this merely scratches the surface of all the joyful gardens you can visit during your stay in the Cotswolds. No matter where your holiday cottage is situated, you won’t be too far away from a garden that will take your breath away.
