Women's Jewellery Parties - The 3 Types of Party

Jewellery parties tend to fall into one of three categories, each of which has its own pros and cons. This article will briefly examine the different types of parties, highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of each.

The first is the brand name party, where the party organiser works as a consultant for one of the many jewellery party companies out there - Virgin Vie and Lia Sophia being two of the most well known. In this case, the consultant has a range of sample stock on hand, and a large catalogue listing further items, complete with pictures, from which to tempt the party goer. Though their consultant status may be reassuring, in the sense that it gives the party organiser a recognised script to follow, and removes the necessity for independent decision making when it comes to stock lines and prices, the downside is that there is little scope for change when change may be necessary.

This is particularly true when it comes to stock choices. Sourcing all your jewellery from a single supplier means that the party organiser can only sell one style of jewellery. What appeals to a 20 year old woman is very different to what appeals to a 60 year old grandmother, and the ability to source varying styles from different sources would enable the organiser to meet the needs of these different types of customer.

The second type of party, and the one with the most scope for profit, is where the party organiser works only for themselves: they source all their own stock, they price each item themselves, and they take all the risk and accept all the profits. In this case, the organiser is running all aspects of her own business, relying on no one else to make decisions for her. The increased risk associated with this type of business model, and the extra work involved, means that it is not suited to all people. Many party planners have migrated to this model after having worked for brand name party companies in the past, recognising the extra profits that can be generated by doing so, and preferring the independence it brings.

By sourcing their own stock direct from wholesalers, they are not constrained by the slow decision making of larger companies. Where the brand name party companies may update their catalogue only twice a year, and styles are recycled year after year, the truly independent party organiser can introduce new stock lines throughout the year, depending on fashions and the types of customers she sells to.

Finally, there is the home made jewellery party. In this case the party organiser is more than a party organiser, in that she has made all the jewellery herself. When the time taken to make the jewellery is factored into the equation, this type of jewellery party tends to generate the least amount of profit. On the other hand, there is very little outlay, as jewellery items do not have to be bought in.

The type of party you decide to run depends very much on your own character and abilities. If you want to truly run your own business, then you should source your own stock and work for yourself. If you prefer to work for someone else, and have your hand held every step of the way, then a consultant position with one of the brand name party companies may be for you. If, however, you are of an artistic mindset, and feel passionate about your jewellery, the home made route may be the way to go.
