Accredited sites have a blue oval seal that reads Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites or VIPPS. Illegal sites offer low prices and don’t have a helpdesk that consumers can contact.

Another risk in making online purchasing of medicine is the possibility of getting counterfeit drugs. There is no safety guarantee that can cover the medicines that are being purchased online. Other countries do not follow the same labeling procedure as with drugs within the United States, making users have lesser information about the drug and its possible side effects. It is also not possible for some online purchases to be returned or have your money refunded. Ordering medicines online may also result in getting the wrong type of medicine that can be harmful to your health. Medicines bought online may also be old stock or near its expiration date. They may also be shipped incorrectly making it exposed to possible contamination.

Some medicines being sold online are also not FDA approved. Meaning that it has not gone through the safety procedures most FDA approved drugs go through in order to make sure that it is safe for human consumption and its prescribed treatment for a disease or medical condition.
