For most companies with a lot of online printing in their minds, a lot of them are now shifting to black and white as the color of choice. With revenues slowly inching down near the level of operational costs it is a must to cut down on some luxuries such as color so that most companies can survive the hard crunch of recession.

I would imagine that a typical printing company will now have plenty of orders for black and white materials instead of full color ones. This is a common theme in business lately and most people think it is a sad but necessary move. However, black and white isn't necessarily bad. In fact it is a back to basics if you will, and it is a good challenge for designers to create a nice layout that looks well in black and white.

So, if you are planning on online printing in the near future, then it is a good idea to consider black and white as the color of choice to save some money. If you are unconvinced, then read the following points below:

B&W is the most affordable

As stated above, printing and black and white is the most affordable. In fact it isn't really in black and white usually. It is just blank ink amidst white paper. In some cases a printing company can add in a white ink as well to create several shades of gray that is distinct from the paper itself. Whichever the case though, it is still the cheapest type of printing that you can wish for. Printing in black and white can slash your printing costs in half, or even more than half in some cases. It is the perfect strategy for a firm in need of tightening its financial belts.

B&W is the new color

One reason why some people are reluctant to use black and white, is that it looks outdated. Well if you think that way, then we have news for you. Black and white is in fact the new “color”. Printer materials that are in black and white convey a classic appeal to viewers that never really die out (hence it is a classic). It portrays a certain elegance, formality and even a nostalgic aura to designs. If your black and white design layout is implemented well, it can even look better than most full color printouts out there. All you need is a good concept to print in black and white and you will be set. You won't appear old. You will appear classical and elegant.

B&W can be easily compensated for

As long as we are on the issue of design, you can easily adapt your existing printed layouts for use in a black and white medium. It is no problem at all and it doesn't require money. It is as simple as switching the color mode for the digital image of your printout to monochrome or black and white. After that, using some simple brightness and contrast settings, your former color design can transform into a good looking high contrast black and white layout. So black and white printing is easily compensated for. If you don't know how to do this, you can ask your online printing service to do this for you, typically at no extra cost.

So black and white isn’t that bad right? It fits in your budget, it is easily adaptable and it is still considered as a classic design strategy that never gets old. So don't deny yourself these benefits. The next time you are an online printing service, ask if you can print your materials in black and white.
