India, once the world's poorest nation in the world, has become the leader in Internet technology and operation. Even with its teemings millions, many still living below the poverty line, it has established itself as a world leader. With its vast population, India is shaping the use of the new Bluetooth technology – and is in turn being shaped by it.

Japan has also long been recognized as a world leader in technology, as has been witnessed through such products as the development of the mobile phone. Now Japan is well on the way to producing the next generation laptop. It is a blue tooth (wireless protocol) laptop computer that will be as little as the size of a fountain pen. A computer that can easily slip into your pocket, or purse. At a quick glance it would be easy to mistake it as being merely a pen, which appears to have a camera stuck on the end of it.

No, it is not a pen, it is the modern advance in the miniaturization of computers. This pen-like machine will produce its own virtual screen and keyboard on any flat surface. You will be able to perform all the normal functions you do now, on your desktop, or laptop computer. The day of struggling along carrying heavy computer bags on your shoulder, will be a thing of the past. All you will require is a wall to project the virtual screen onto and a flat table top to project the virtual keyboard and bingo, you will have your portable computer. You will be able to connect to the Internet and complete all your computer tasks, with little more than a pen-size machine. The share mobility of this new product will revolutionize how we think about computering and in particular, how and where we operate a laptop.

The first laptop computer was even a zillion miles away from the first 30 ton electronic computer, produced back in 1943. It was called the Colossus and housed in a huge room. By the 1980’s personal computers (PCs) were becoming a popular item and being used by a lot of businesses.

The next major move forward in compuetering was the ready availability of the lap top computer, in 1982. It was approximately the size of a portable sewing machine and was about to once again cause a revolution in the business world. While still a very new business for a lot of people, the world of cyber space was becoming a virtual reality.

By 1995 the introduction of Windows 95, which standardized the operating systems on all computers, would forever change how people considered computers. Soon nearly every household would find computers were as vital to their way of life, as the telephone. Soon computers would take over whole industries, changing the way people receive their news, send messages to each other, play games, interact with each other and search for information.

Laptops were originally designed with a ‘small niche market’ in mind, such as the military, or travelling salesmen. How wrong was that? There are more laptops in use in businesses today, than desk top computers. Nearly every student has a laptop computer as an essential part of everyday life.
