The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations. It is a voice on the state and behaviour of the Earth’s atmosphere. Each year its 188 Member States and Territories commemorate the entry into force, on that date in 1950, of the WMO convention creating the Organisation.

Each year a different theme is chosen, to focus the celebration around. This year the theme is “Weather, climate and the air we breathe”. As always, the topic is very appropriate to the WMO - whose main objectives include the improvement of weather and climate observations.

At a time when 90% of natural disasters are directly related to weather, climate and water hazards, the work of the World Meteorological Organization is even more imperative. Society today is becoming more aware and concerned with these environmental issues. It is essential that we all play our part in caring for our world. We are all being encouraged to lower our ‘carbon footprint’. To recycle more, switch to energy saving appliances etc.

There are many Eco friendly gadgets out there, but which would make a great gift for someone? Treating someone to a pack of energy saving light bulbs probably wouldn’t go down too well!! But if like most households, they have a computer, Findmeagift.com might just have the energy saving gadget you are looking for!

The ‘Eco Button Power Saver’ for your computer. It’s true what they say, clever things do come in small packages! This nifty little button plugs into your computer, and you simply press it, whenever you take a short break. No need to waste time closing down programs or going through the procedures to put it into hibernation state. One push of this little button and your computer is put into an energy saving ‘eco mode’. It ensures your computer only uses the same amount of power as when it is shutdown! To resume working, just press any key on the keyboard!

What’s more it also records the carbon units, and how much power and money you have saved by using it. A smart device that reduces your carbon footprint and energy bills too!

Another alternative for an eco friendly friend is a “Co2 Emissions Climate Relief Pack” also available from Findmeagift.com. This starter pack includes 100kg of carbon credits, which are purchased and retired on your behalf. By buying these Co2 emissions quotas from big polluting companies, you are instantly guaranteeing that less harmful emissions will be released into the atmosphere. An excellent eco gift, bursting with extras - including a certificate, useful information about the effect of Co2 on our climate and even a little book about living green!

Or maybe just a simple gift, nothing too fancy or technical, but will still make us think of the environment? Then look to the “Global Warming Mug”. A real marvel of a mug, it reveals the Earths fate as Global Warming sets in and the Polar Ice Caps melt. It responds when it is filled with a hot beverage, and as if by magic, the affected parts of the world will disappear on the map. They will then reappear as the beverage cools, or has been drunk! Another eco feature is that it is not dishwasher safe, so it helps you save on energy consumption too!

FindMeAGift.com feature these and many more gifts for all occasions.

So don’t forget, on March 23rd to give a thought to the fight against Global Warming. And just for one day, make a real effort to conserve energy. Switch off any lights you are not using, turn the TV off, instead of on standby, and if possible, forget the car and walk to the shop for your morning paper and take time to enjoy the ‘weather, climate and air we breathe’!
