Tips on Stopping Smoking Quickly

Many people who have been smoking for a long time will tell you they believe quitting is close to impossible. Tips on stopping smoking can help you kick the habit faster. Get started today.

If you are able to identify what triggers your smoking in the first place, you will have much greater success with eliminating the habit for good.

1. Set a goal for yourself to stop smoking. Tell your friends, family and co-workers about your plan to quit smoking. When you have the support of friends and family you are more likely to succeed in quitting.

2. Clean up your living spaces at home and at work. Clean these spaces of all ashtrays, tobacco products and lighters. Consider rearranging the furniture in your home. For instance, if you have a favorite chair you retire to each evening to have a smoke, it can entice you to start smoking again. Move the chair. As for work, move your computer monitor to a different area or just reposition it. Anything that reminds you of smoking should be rearranged or removed completely.

3. As you are probably aware, sometimes people or places can cause us to start thinking about smoking and then, ultimately, give into the temptation. You have likely heard the old adage - out of sight, out of mind, it really does help to keep your triggers away from your mind. Keep yourself on track by avoiding these subtle temptations. It will go a long way towards your success.

4. Whether you realize it or not, your thoughts can derail your stopping smoking efforts without warning. Don't let a tough day at work or a stressful traffic situation cause you to sabotage your stopping smoking efforts. Be careful not to fall into the trap of thinking that one cigarette won't hurt. That is the sure way to break your new good habit. Don't talk yourself into failure.

5. It is very important to recognize that most of kicking the habit is won in the mind. Make a special effort to get more informed about all of the obstacles you will face in quitting, both in the physical world and in your own mind. A properly laid out plan will keep your mind on track and that is more than half of the battle.

As you can see there are a whole host of stop smoking tips. So many, in fact, it can make you leary of trying to quit in the first place! Don't get so overwhelmed that you never begin. Take one idea and try it out per day, or even one idea per month and then add another idea.

Often times when we are presented with so many options, we can suffer from analysis paralysis. Don't let that happen to you. No matter which of the tips you decide to pursue, just be sure to get started as soon as possible. Take small steps if necessary and everything will fall into place.
