Cholesterol is substance that is wax like and produced by the liver. It is found in certain foods and the body can use it to make Vitamin D, hormones, build cell walls, and help you digest fat. Some cholesterol is good cholesterol but however, too much cholesterol can cause serious health issues among many people.

Fats that are found through out the body are known as lipids. Cholesterol is a type a lipid. It can be found in foods like eggs, dairy and meats. Cholesterol travels through the blood stream. To do so it has to combine itself with other proteins and this helps in transporting it to different areas of the body. When it attaches itself to a protien it is then called a lipoprotein.

Too much cholesterol can cause plaque build up in the walls of the arteries. Over a longer period of time the plaque builds up more and more and causes the arteries to become smaller and narrower. This makes the flow of blood decrease and can even cause the arteries to harden. Some of the causes of high cholesterol are obesity, heredity, poor diet, little or no physical exercise, and old age.

Diet plays the biggest role in controlling your cholesterol levels. Hydrogenated oils that are in baking goods, junk foods, and fried foods are the main concern for most people. A low carb diet will greatly lower blood cholesterol. Foods like veggies, nuts, seeds, and legumes all obstruct the absorption of cholesterol. Soy protein decreases the production of cholesterol and reduces levels blood levels of cholesterol. Some other foods that good for cholesterol are shitake mushrooms, walnuts, almonds, uncooked soy, blueberries, salmon, garlic, avocado, apples, black beans, and any dark leafy green vegetable.

Exercise of course will help you lower your cholesterol. About 30 to 40 minutes a day for 5 to 6 days a week. There are so many different exercise programs out there any one will help so you can find one that is just right for you.

There are herbs that will help to lower your cholesterol as well. Hawthorn is one of them. It is a shrub native to Europe. The green berries in the summer, the leaves in the spring, and the flowers all have a lot of beneficial things in them. Not only will it help to lower cholesterol it will also lower blood pressure, increase coronary blood flow, and reduce the size of the plaque clogging you up. A 6:1 ratio when preparing is recommended in the use of hawthorn. Or 2g of concentrated extract with a teaspoon of water or juice 3 times a day.

Red yeast is the fermented product of rice in which red yeast has been grown. You can get it in the form of a pill and have been known to greatly reduce the cholesterol in people. Monacolin K is one of the ingredients in red yeast and it can retard the action of the coA causing lower production of cholesterol.

There are a lot of other supplements that can be taken to lower your cholesterol. Using them along with diet, exercise, and stress reduction will be more sufficient in lower cholesterol quickly. The amount of side effects and incidences are much lower than when taking a prescription none herbal natural product. In fact most supplements hardly have any side effects if none at all. Alternative Health Supplements has A variety of natural products that will help to lower your cholesterol the safe way. One of these products is HDL Cholesterol Management by Bell. It doesn’t have the side effects of prescription drugs and it is far less expensive. HDL Cholesterol is just as effective and it can lower your cholesterol safely.
