If you see that the conversation is just going to turn into a session of rehashing everything that went wrong in your relationship, back off and give it more time before you try to contact your ex again. Once you can both have a mature, friendly conversation with each other you will be ready to start on the path to getting back your ex.

Be open and honest with your feelings, and ask your ex if there could be a possibility of becoming a couple again. Don’t insist that they answer right now – for all you know, your contacting them took them completely by surprise, and they may be at a complete loss for words. They will need to think about the things you’ve said before making a decision. Just pose the question and give them space to think about it on their own. This is the key to getting back your ex.
