The Truth About Network Marketing

To borrow a line from Charles Dickens: These are the best of times; these are the worst of times.

These are the worst of times for many Americans as the job market continues to put more and more people out of work. Millions of people have lost their steady paycheck and right now, job security is pretty much non-existent. To make matters worse, there isn’t a whole lot of new hiring going on; most employers have put a freeze on hiring.

On the other hand, these are the best of times for thousands of people who are turning to home based business in response to the souring job market. This group of forward thinking people realizes that there is no longer a future in having a boss and a job. Many are seeing that financial security is a responsibility of the individual, not that of an employer. These are the people who are boldly taking responsibility for their own financial needs and are doing so through a home based business.

Today, right now, is a time for bold action; NOT business as usual. Those who try to cling to business as usual are certain to get trampled in this new economy.

So, for those who are ready to tackle the world of home based business, there are many wonderful, legitimate opportunities to be found today. At the same time, however, there are a countless number of schemes and scams masquerading as opportunity. There is no end to the web sites and ads out there all barking about one new home business opportunity or the other. One of the biggest challenges a budding home based entrepreneur will face is trying to sort through all the noise. With so much to sort through, how can one reasonably distinguish the good from the bad?

Picking through the pile to find a real opportunity – one that’s right for you – will require a process of due diligence. There’s an old saying I’d like to rehash which will sharpen your focus and make your due diligence more efficient and worthwhile. That old saying is: if it sounds too good to be true, it is.

There are so many charlatans lurking around on the internet who have one single goal in mind: to separate you from your money. They’ll make whatever outrageous claim they need to in order to get into your wallet. Their usual tactic is to appeal to a person’s sense of greed. Look, we all have a sense of greed; you need to keep yours in check when searching for a legitimate opportunity for yourself.

The message of the typical online shyster will tell you that if you get involved in their opportunity, you’ll basically become wealthy overnight. And, you’ll be able to do so with such ease that the only work you’ll ever have to do is to look at your ballooning bank statements every now and then. It’s sad that this underground group of snake oil salesmen make a living, sometimes a phenomenal living, by preying on the dreams and hopes of others but it’s true. So it’s up to you to keep yourself guarded and protected.

An industry that many home based entrepreneurs turn to is Network Marketing and for good reason. This is a profession that has enabled more people to become independently wealthy working from home than probably any other. But, don’t let anybody EVER tell you that it won’t require effort. I’m sure if you’ve spent any bit of time online researching Network Marketing as an opportunity, you’ve come across plenty of claims of easy riches. Don’t believe a one of them.

I’m here to tell you that Network Marketing is an incredible profession which has been around for close to 60 years. And, I would unequivocally recommend it as a terrific home based business option. At the same time, however, you must understand that it is no get rich quick deal. Get rich? Yes. Quick? No.

People the world over have gotten wealthy in Network Marketing. Those who are succeeding in MLM are the ones who treat their chosen profession like a legitimate business. And, as anyone knows, success in business will only come about as a result of honest effort and hard work; especially at the beginning. Once a Network Marketing business is up and running it will generate passive income but only after the work up front has been done.

There’s no question that people are most attracted to what appears to be the easiest solution – heck, I’m one of them. But let’s be honest about becoming wealthy, if it were really that easy, wouldn’t everybody be living their dream life? Yes, wealth in Network Marketing is available to everyone. But, nobody is going to give it to you; you have to go out and earn it for yourself.

An additional word of caution I’d like to offer is to know who it is you’re thinking of starting a Network Marketing business with. The underground charlatans making hyped up claims about home based opportunities usually never expose themselves – they prefer to hide faceless behind a pretty web site. Legitimate businessmen and women are not afraid to put themselves out there.

You will be able to easily reach the MLM business men and women through blogs, email and social networking web sites such as Facebook and Twitter. These are the people who are not afraid to show their faces. They seek to connect with others on a personal level first knowing full well that success comes only through building relationships with people, not fleecing them.

So to recap, here are two tips you can use right away to help you find a Network Marketing opportunity which is right for you: 1) If something sounds too good to be true or if somebody is making a hyped up claim about their opportunity, be very careful about its legitimacy. 2) Make sure the person you’re thinking of conducting business with is easy to contact and that they’re not “hiding behind the curtain”.

Yes, these are extraordinary times we’re going through right now. For many these are the best of times, for others, they are the worst of times. What will it be for you? Or, I should ask, what will YOU make of these times for yourself?
