Sometimes, if needed, the reseller might consider buying a dedicated server from the company that does the primary hosting, or sell back the wholesale hosting package for a profit. Of course, he has to enter into a transactional agreement with the hosting company; which will then allow him to resell a certain amount of disk space and internet bandwidth to consumers that he has recruited without having the need to rent or buy a server from the original company that provides the hosting service and the one that he has accrued a reseller account with.

The possible companies or organisations that might be reseller hosts could be a web design firm, or one that develops web pages or perhaps a systems integrator that offers this reseller hosting service as a value added service on top of their normal business functions. It is also a very cheap way for enterprising individuals to start a small corporations and base their business solely on reseller hosting for the initial part. They are allowed the freedom to create their own price plans, their own service plans and can even offer their own software products into the bargain to make their offers more profitable. They are able to brand themselves and customize their own services with the used of a control panel and of course name servers – tools that are given to them by the host themselves.

To be a reseller host, you do need to have good knowledge on the technical principles of the web and of course web hosting. All aspects of this, including the maintenance of the server is up to the data center operator, which is based and recruited by the original hosting company. All the reseller has to do is to take care of his own customers, and all hardware and software problems, as well as connectivity issues will be forwarded to the host or the original service provider. Being a good reseller firm means that you need to be able to extensively advertise yourself to recruit plenty of customers and this isn’t too hard a job to do if you put your mind and effort to it. Reseller hosting is big business on the internet and it is a multi million a year business – but there is plenty of competition and advertising usually incurs big budgets because of the sheer level of competition involved.
