As of this writing, times are quite tough. There is an economic downturn that has affected virtually the entire world. People are losing jobs in bunches. Home evictions are at their highest level in years. Social services and charities are straining to keep up with an increased demand from people who need help getting by. Perhaps you’ve already been hit by this tsunami of financial distress. Perhaps you haven’t been hit by it, but are frightened that you will be.

While the economic landscape does presently look particularly bleak, financial problems are prevalent even in the best of times. One could reasonably go so far as to say that the number one complaint people have is insufficient access to money. Health problems are another very common difficulty. Problems with key relationships happen frequently. Many people dislike their jobs. Many people are lonely. There are people who live in places that they don’t like. To put it in summary, many, many people feel that their lives are significantly problematic in one way or another. If you are mostly content with your existence, consider yourself blessed and continue to enjoy your life as much as possible.

But what of the people who aren’t happy or content? Must they simply trudge unhappily on, hoping for some bit of good fortune that changes their existence for the better? A person can certainly take such an approach if they choose, but they don’t have to. Here’s something I’ve found to be a truism: it is possible for a person -- any person -- to alter his or her life for the better. Let me say right off that this is not an endorsement for some outlook or other that claims achievement can be had by following a particular behavior pattern -- something along the lines of having a certain outlook about life, interact with people in a certain way, do this mental exercise twice a day, spin about three times, and you’ll be a success. What I’m speaking of here is quite different than that. What I’m speaking of is nearly a magical response.

You, and anyone else, can change life for the better by simply repeating the following: I love you, I’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you. Say it silently, to yourself, say it whenever a problem comes up, say it when everything seems fine, say it as often as you possibly can and preferably all the time. What is the purpose of doing this? Saying ‘I love you, I’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you’ is a form of a method known as ho’oponopono. You may not yet have heard of ho’oponopono but it is quickly growing in notoriety and popularity. Ho’oponopono is referred to as a cleaning process, whereby one moves aside blocks to the individual’s ideal existence. Ho’oponopono is a spiritual method that presumes the existence of a universal life force, but it is not denominational and has no direct connect to any organized form of religion. Ho’oponopono originated on the Hawaiian Islands where it’s been practiced for generations and is still practiced today. The traditional method of ho’oponopono however is different from the form being advocated here.

It’s simply impossible to thoroughly express the ho’oponopono form in brief. While ho’oponopono is simple, it’s also fairly broad and like anything else, the more one learns of it the more applications it has. But a starting point has been provided to use here. Try silently repeating ‘I love you, I’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you’, feel the effects, and then further your understanding and application of the ho’oponopono method as you feel motivated to do so.
