Your company’s logo represents your company in front of your customers. They don’t have the time to come by to your company office, but they will visit your website. And that’s where you make the impression. It’s not just your customers, your suppliers, prospects and even the press will look for your logo. Therefore, while designing your company’s logo try to be crystal clear and dynamic. You may be just starting out, but your logo can make you look like pro.

Now you can follow 5 easy time-tested guidelines while designing your logo or getting it by some external agency.

1. It should always be unique and an honest reflection of your company. Don’t try to make it look like your competitor’s one. Symbols contained inside a logo are called bugs and if you have any, then it must be representing your company or any particular characteristic of it. It should give you some competitive advantage. What’s the quality that makes your company unique in its field? If you have the fastest delivery system available, then consider something representing speed like wings or clock. For high-tech companies abstract symbols are the perfect choice. Try to present your idea in the clearest way.

2. Design logos that can be recognized easily and in no time. Try to put strong and dark characters and lines. This way they can be clearly compressed or enlarged if needed. The main aim is to make the logo simple, not simplistic. Represent something in unique and clear way. Consider some successful companies’ logo like – Nike, Prudential or McDonald’s. You will see a simple but compelling representation of a unique idea.

3. You should also keep in mind about the printing cost of a logo. A simple one color logo or a logo designed in black and white looks perfect. If you design something in 4-color or 2-color, consider the printing cost also because it will be higher.

4. Design your logo to be scalable. It should give the same feeling while looking at, whether in small or large or in any other medium. Just take it in this way - your logo should be pleasing to look at on both biz card and billboard.

5. Each part of your logo should be perfectly balanced. It means each part should be giving the same pleasing feeling when you look at them. Just think how will a painting look if all color and details were centered on only one part of it? The same goes for a logo. Color, line density and shape of various objects included in logo – all should be perfectly balanced.

When you first design a logo for your company, put all of your efforts in it and make it your best work. Consider all possible trends in market and design it in such a way that it lasts for 10 to 15 years at least. After getting your logo designed you have to convert it in three file formats – JPG and GIF for using on your website and EPS for printing purposes.
