Placing the bait, and setting the hook in place, and waiting for the bite sounds like fishing. Well, the fisherman goes out to the lake where there will be fish. He doesn’t go fishing in his bathtub or the desert because there’s no chance of fish being there. That’s common sense. This same common sense can be used in the business world. And the phrase used for this is getting targeted traffic.

Here are 5 surefire ways to get the traffic you want to your site.

1) Identify the prospects: Your potential customer profile should be researched and analyzed. A final prospect profile can be created and then you will know exactly the range of people who would be interested in what you have to offer. There’s no point advertising your home business website in an entertainment section of a directory. Important points to note in the prospect profile are age ranges, status of relationship, income levels, interests, and hobbies, and for obvious reasons, people with a stated interest in your service or product.

2) Identify Habits and Hangouts: This is basically the places and usual hang outs of the prospective customers. It is clearly useful to know where they hang out and where they do their daily business, searches, and online activities. So you should ask some questions.

Where do my prospects find news about my niche?
Where do they search for opportunities on the internet?
Do they hangout on social networking sites?
Do they attend forums and participate in blogs?

3) Place Media: Once the ground work has been done, it is off to the next step and this is “the placing of the bait”. Now that we have found the fish rich lake, we can just get our hook ready and go for the big catch. It usually breaks down to 2 types of media. Visual and Audio media are the 2 basic means of bait. Either you place something that can be seen, such as the written word, or a video, or poster, flyer, etc., or you place something that is heard, such as radio, audio videos, or a combination of the two. Creating the many potential forms of media is the main work you need to do, and it is usually just a matter of placing it out there to catch those big fish.

The above are the secrets to getting highly targeted traffic. There are few who would disagree with the points that have been made. For newbie’s or new home business owners or potential home business owners the information is priceless. It is often a problem for beginners to get people interested in their site. That’s why people should do some research, get the potential customers data, and proceed after that.

It should be stated that the above final step will only be highly effective if the first 2 steps have been completed and well done. Catching the big fish will become a habit, once you get your bait and hook in the right waters.
