Christmas is a time to be with family and friends, enjoying each others company, with good food and beautiful traditions. Wonderful moments like these should be captured and stored in albums where we can readily turn every page and reminisce old times with our loved-ones.

Simple, user-friendly cameras are excellent for taking family pictures during Christmas. It can also be used on any occasion or during an important event. Nowadays, digital cameras come in small, sleek, and stylish designs, which are very handy to carry around.

Here are some basic photo tips and tricks you could use to make Christmas more memorable.

Always prepare for any photo opportunity

Prepare your digital camera by making sure your battery is fully charged. It is also important to check your memory card, making sure there are plenty of spaces for new pictures. Your digital camera should be always within your reach throughout Christmas, as there will be lots of opportunities where you might want to capture the moment.

Have a photo buddy

Christmas is a busy event, and there may be times when you are too preoccupied attending guests, or doing some hosting work that you just can’t possibly concentrate on taking photos. Thus, it is important to have a photo buddy with you. This person can do the task of taking pictures for you while the event is in progress.

Take close-up shots

In taking pictures, make sure to take close-up shots as possible. Remember to focus on the person or the object rather than including unnecessary backgrounds.

Make a pre-arranged picture taking

It is a wonderful idea to take pictures on a pre-arranged basis. Setting up chairs with a chosen background is ideal for family picture taking which should not be missed. This will ensure that everyone will have their turn to strike a pose. Using a tripod is also recommendable.

Take consecutive shots

Always take consecutive shots, especially for wonderful moments. Not all first shots are good, and one shot may be much better than the others. That way, you will have something to choose from.

Try taking photos without a flash

Most pictures are taken with a flash on, but sometimes strong lighting takes out the special Christmas atmosphere. Instead of turning the flash on, try to increase the sensitivity level of the camera to capture natural lighting.

Make use of candlelight during picture taking

Candlelight creates a cozy and special atmosphere during Christmas. Switch your flash off when taking pictures with candlelight on. This will have a beautiful and natural effect on your photo.

Capture a series of event

Take pictures in a series of events from preparation time until guests bid goodbye. The photos will be perfect for a digital slide show that you could show among friends and family – especially those who are miles away.

Take most pictures of the oldest family members

Take interest of taking pictures with the oldest members of the family. Make sure to capture happy moments with them. Having the photos developed later and giving them a copy of it will surely make them in high spirits.

Delete bad pictures and organize the good ones

After reviewing all the photos you have taken, make sure to delete the bad pictures, and keep the best ones. Do a little editing and organize them into a fine Christmas collection.

Share Christmas photos online

Share your pictures online! This way, friends and distant relatives will be able to view your Christmas pictures. Select an appropriate photo sharing websites that you can post your photos to, so that friends can easily access them on their end.
