Breast Reduction

Although most people naturally think of implants or enlargement when they think of breast surgery, there are actually plenty of women in this country that have reduction surgery performed each year. The incisions are often made under the breast crease, making them very inconspicuous. The initial recovery period will last about a week or two, after which patients can generally return to work. There will be some swelling though after the surgery, which may not completely subside for roughly six months or more. Breast Enlargement

Enlargement is the most common surgical procedure for women today. There are actually several different techniques now for inserting the implants. Some make incisions under the breast creases; others make the incisions in the underarm area. There are also two different choices of implant material - silicone or saline. Silicone is often touted for its realistic shape and feel, but the saline implants are easier to adjust in terms of size because they can be inflated and deflated as needed.

The typical enlargement surgery takes place with the patient under local or general anesthetic with the surgeon making incision and inserting the implants either under or over the pectoral muscles. Once the implants are well positioned, the incisions will be closed, although a drainage tube is often left in place for a few days to help reduce the swelling.

Breast Lift

Lift surgery is a popular procedure for older women as well as those who have breastfed several children. For these women, the breast tissue no longer fills out the skin creating a drooping, sagging, shapeless appearance. A lift corrects this problem by removing the excess skin.

The incisions are again made under the chest creases and the skin is gently lifted from the underlying tissues. The tissues are repositioned and reshaped and often implants are added as well. Then the skin is stretched down tightly over the tissue and implants, the extra skin is excised and the remaining skin is sewn back into place at the incision line. The areolas are also repositioned to create the most natural look possible.

Breast surgery can help create the ideal shape and look, whether that means lifting, reducing, or augmenting. This gives women greater satisfaction with their appearance and often boosts their self-confidence as well!
