January San Diego Weather

January San Diego Weather is normally the coldest of the year in this mild climate city. There have only been 9 days on which the low temperature in San Diego was below freezing, and all have come in January. The coldest measured day in San Diego since 1872 was 25 degrees Fahrenheit on January 7, 1913.

The average low temperature in January in San Diego is 49.5 degrees and the average high temperature is 66. Highs can exceed 70 or even 80, and the highest temperature recorded in San Diego was 88 on January 10, 1953.

January San Diego Weather is also the most prone to rain, and averages 7 days a month with rain (this would be a slow month in many cities). The normal amount of rainfall in San Diego in January is 2.3 inches, but over 8 inches fell in 1995, and there have been numerous months of January in San Diego in which no rain has fallen (and this is the wettest month!). Hail is possible but always small, and snowflakes have been seen but the only time a real snow has happened was once, on January 10, 1949.

The sun shines over 70 percent of the time in a typical January in San Diego, and there are 12 clear, 8 partly cloudy, and 11 cloudy days in an average January. There can be anywhere from zero to ten days with fog, but the average January will have three. Humidity is mild and will not affect your activities.

San Diego Weather In January can be windy, and will accompany the rain at times. These winds can be a strong as 30-35 mph, with gusts 10 mph higher. A 64 mph wind was measured in 1988.

While laying out at the beach could be uncomfortable on a cooler than average day, you should be able to enjoy just about any outdoor activity in San Diego in January.

February San Diego Weather

February Weather In San Diego is a little warmer than January because the sun is out a little longer. The average high temperature is 66.3, and the normal low is 51. The high will exceed 70 or even 80, and the highest measured temperature in San Diego in February is 89 in 1921. A low of 34 has been measured on 4 different occasions, most recently in 1911.

The average rainfall in San Diego in February is about 2 inches. Normally 6 days will have rain, but in 1884 there were 15 rainy days that dumped over 9 inches of rain. Twice there have been rainless Februarys in San Diego. Small hail has fallen a few times, but no snow has fallen in San Diego in February since the weather has been tracked. There is an average of 3 days a month with heavy fog in San Diego in February.

As in January, winds in excess of 30 mph or more are a possibility. A 53 mph wind was measured in 1938.

As in January, humidity is not an issue in San Diego in February, and it’s usually around 70 percent in the morning and 50 percent for much of the rest of the day. The sun shines over 70 percent of the time, with an average of 11 clear, 7 partly cloudy, and 10 cloudy days.

Golf, tennis, running, and walking are enjoyable in San Diego in February. Swimming could be a bit harder to enjoy on a cool day, but on a warmer afternoon it’s doable.
