British Sandwich Week takes place on the 10th – 16th May 2009. The British Sandwich Association has announced that it is to help the British farming and food industry beat the recession with the launch of a truly great British sandwich – the ‘Hammie’ for British Sandwich Week.

The Great British Hammie is going to be a triple pack selection of ham sandwiches made entirely from British home grown ingredients. It is hoped that everyone in the industry will get behind this initiative and support British Sandwich week 2009, by putting their own version of this sandwich on their shelves.

The humble sandwich, most people at some point in their lives has eaten one. The majority of us have them most days for lunch, be it at school or work. Yes we love sandwiching our favourite fillings between two slices of tasty bread.
But having them every day can get a bit monotonous. So we try different things in an effort to spice them up. Substitute salad cream with an Italian dressing, hot ‘n’ spicy chutney in place of pickle. Squares sliced into triangles, seeded bread instead of plain white, or even better toasted!
