Are you looking to buy a home or condo in Lakeway, Texas? This is a preview of the area and what you can expect to find in your price range.

Lakeway homes are in demand thanks to a vibrant community in one of the most beautiful parts of Travis County. With rolling hills, fifty-mile views, and shoreline on Lake Travis, the Lakeway area is very popular with singles, new families, and empty nesters. Great schools also attract many people to this area of Travis County.

One of the first questions to ask yourself is if you want to buy an existing home or build a custom home on a lot. There are several new developments in Lakeway including Rough Hollow and The Preserve at Lakeway which offer lots from just under $100,000 to close to a million dollars. But there are also a number of existing homes and condos on the market at any given time.

Lakeway broadly encompasses the 78734 area code, which is what I used when pulling up home stats for this article. The lowest priced homes are generally in the Apache Shores area just outside Lakeway, where you can find homes in the 100s and 200s. There are also condos and garden homes in the Lakeway area generally starting in the 200s, but older units can be found in the 100s.

Once your price range extends into the 350,000-550,000 ranges your options open up to single family homes in close-in Lakeway, such as The Preserve at Lakeway.

The old saying “location, location, location” is only partially true in Lakeway. It’s probably better to say “view, location, view”. Whether it’s a view of the hill country, Lake Travis, or the golf course, lots and homes are priced with a premium if they have a view. (And even more for lakefront homes).

In fact, lakefront homes typically cost $1 million or more. A 6,800 square foot home in a waterfront community is currently listed at $4.1M. Another home that isn’t on the lake but has sweeping views of it is $3.35M, and a 7,000 square foot home in Rough Hollow is priced at $2.7M.

There’s also an airpark with homes on it if you are an aviation enthusiast.

Let’s say you’re looking for a single family existing home in the $450,000 to $500,000 price range. At the time of writing there are 28 homes that meet this criteria. There’s a 3,258 home built in 1985 with sweeping views of Lake Travis on just over a half acre for $450,000. For $458,000 you can buy a 2,936 home built in 1994 with 4 bedrooms and 3 1/2 baths. It’s close to the golf course and includes a golf cart garage. For about 460,000 you can get a new home in The Preserve at Lake Travis with 3,431 feet.

The truth is there’s something for every budget in Lakeway, whether you’re looking for a small starter home on the outskirts of Lakeway, a condo inside the city limits, or a mansion on the waterfront overlooking Lake Travis.
