Looking for a way to upgrade your home? Consider installing faux wood blinds. These blinds are classy, attractive and practical. Faux wood blinds are a great alternative to aluminum or natural wood blinds, and these blinds won’t dent like some aluminum blinds do. Faux wood is just as beautiful as natural wood, but less expensive and more durable.

What are faux wood blinds? Faux wood blinds, also called ‘faux woods,’ are made from high-quality PVC (a synthetic material) or from a composite of man-made materials and wood particles. Faux wood is more durable than natural wood, and giving it many benefits.

Benefits of Faux Wood Blinds:

- Easy to clean soap and water
- Moisture resistant
- Heat and warp resistant
- Stain resistant

With faux wood blinds, you do not have to worry about warping, cracking or splitting. If you live in a climate with high humidity, faux wood blinds are a great alternative to wood blinds. Faux wood blinds are well suited for bathrooms, kitchens, garages and areas with high moisture. Faux wood blinds are also less likely to break or scratch than wood blinds and they offer better insulation.

What should you look for in faux wood blinds? Below are a few things to consider when shopping in the market for faux wood blinds.

What to look for in Faux Wood Blinds:

- Style: Faux woods are available with three different kinds of surface finish--smooth, sandblasted and embossed.

- Fire-retardant: Make sure your blinds are fire-retardant. Most blinds are coated with a fire-retardant. However, some manufacturers offer blinds with a flame-retardant built right into the material without any coatings or coverings. Blinds with an inherent flame-retardant are the best option.

- Ease of installation: Some companies will install the blinds. If you choose to install them yourself, make sure the installation instructions are easy to read and follow.

- Warranty: Faux woods are known for their durability and ability to last many years. Look for a warranty in the faux wood blinds you select. A 25-year warranty is ideal.

- UV treated: Look for blinds that have been U.V. treated to protect the finish on the wood. This ensures that the original color of the blinds does not fade.

- Color: Faux wood blinds are available in a variety of shades, such as white, eggshell, cherry, oak and dark walnut. Look for a manufacturer who offers blinds in many colors. You should be able to find a shade that matches your home perfectly.

- Size: Many faux wood blinds are 2” or 2.5”. However, some manufacturers offer blinds that are up to 4.5 inches. If you have large windows, don’t feel like you need to settle for a size that you are not satisfied with.

You may also want to think about whether you would like to have traditional horizontal blinds or vertical blinds. You can also consider having tilt or locking pull rods.

Faux wood blinds can make the difference between a nice home and a gorgeous home. With the natural look of wood, faux woods effectively block sunlight from entering into a room and create a natural look. Best of all, they are less expensive than wood blinds and more durable. Faux woods are quickly replacing plastic and wood blinds for their aesthetic qualities and their practicality.

Where to Buy:

Interested in the look that faux wood can add to your home? You can start to research faux wood blinds online, or at a local window treatment retailer. If you don’t know of any local retailers, you can easily locate a window blind and shutter dealer online.
