Although many men and women suffer from thinning hair and baldness, many don't really know why their hair seems to be thinner.

Although some men never go completely "bald," they are still experiencing hair thinning. In fact, every man will lose hair at some point. There is a term used to describe balding, androgenetic. This means that male baldness requires the presence of male hormones (androgens) and a genetic tendency toward hair loss.

There are a large number of genes that contribute to hair loss, so there is no way to know in advance how much hair loss a certain person will experience. There is a common belief that is a mother's father is bald, then her sons will be bald, but this is in fact a myth. There is a complicated grouping of genes that determines hair loss.

There are other causes of hair loss as well. There is baldness associated with cancer treatments and immune suppression medications, although this is not the commonly considered type of hair loss, and the hair normally grows back after treatment ends.

A disease called alopecia areata, which refers to small bald patches that normally grow back, may cause hair loss that occurs in patches traction alopecia, which is caused by ponytails, or braids that are too tight, and tinea capitis, which is a fungal infection.

There is also hair loss that occurs after a sudden weight loss or illness, but this type of hair loss is temporary. In fact, the more severe the loss, the more quickly it grows back.

By far the most commonly discussed type of hair loss is the androgenetic type that is commonly known as male-pattern baldness.

As previously noted, genetics and hormones, not any of the other causes that are tossed around, cause this kind of baldness. For example, it is not caused by long hair putting too much strain on the roots. Wearing hats doesn't cut off the circulation to the scalp, causing baldness, and increasing the circulation to the head through massages doesn't stop hair loss. Circulation doesn't affect hair loss.

Other old wives’ tales about male pattern baldness is that wearing ponytails causes it, and that excessive sweating or sebum on the scalp causes it. The only treatments that work to restore the hair loss, then, address these two items (hormones and genetics) or simply utilize a man's existing hair and repositioning it so that it is used in the most efficient way. This is called Hair Restoration Surgery.

When they do experience this type of hair loss, many men want to mitigate the effects. They may be surprised at how reasonable Hair Restoration cost is, particularly when compared to other types of Restoration Surgery at other facilities.

While there is little that can be done to completely stop hair loss, Hair Restoration Surgery is a great option for making the most of the hair you have left and giving a natural look.
