Your home is just as important on the outside as it is on the inside, so when tending to the outside of your Indianapolis real estate, make sure that your gutters are well cared for. Gutters are often times overlooked as a vital part of your home, but their worth quickly becomes noted when they are left to disrepair. The following are some items of consideration when looking at the quality and condition of your gutters.

First off, what are your gutters made of? Most gutters are made of either aluminum or vinyl, and can withstand the elements fairly well. A problem that many home owners face is that gutters will routinely take hail damage. In fact, many instance adjusters will merely look to the gutters for signs of damage to the rest of the home or roof. If your Indianapolis real estate is sporting damaged gutters, then consider replacing them or having your insurance agent take a look.

Second to consider when looking at your gutters is the amount of leaves that may accrue. Indianapolis real estate tends to be tree-heavy, and those trees will shed often. Many times if your gutters are low hanging or if you have a one story home, you may need them cleaned often. Consider the fastest and safest way to your roof, or if your home is strong enough, consider a ladder that is designed to rest against your gutters. Don’t let your leaves pile up, otherwise your gutters will become overburdened and possibly break.

Next is the amount of run off pipes your gutters may hold. Your run off pipes guide water from your gutters to the ground, and while these are usually located on the corners of you Indianapolis real estate, you may want to look into alternative run off points. Your down spouts on your gutters can often be a source of leaf clogging and can easily become stuffed, so keep a close eye.

Another factor to consider with your gutters concerning your Indianapolis real estate is if they made from a material that matches your home in color and texture? You want your home to be pleasing to the eye, and having gutters that are the same color as the house can aide in this. If your gutters don’t match, then painting them or replacing them may be a matter of concern.

Finally, you may want to consider how close the run off from your gutters is to your Indianapolis real estate. If your gutters are spilling near the property, then you risk possible water damage to the base of your home. Look into getting some type of tray or pipe to guide the water away from your home and into your yard to protect your home’s foundation.

Your gutters may not seem like it, but they are a vital part of your Indianapolis real estate. Treat your gutters with respect and tend to them yearly, and they will continue to serve you and your home for years to come.
