Teenagers experience changes in their hormonal levels. That is why they are more prone to acne breakouts. If you are a teenager with an acne problem, then you should consider getting an acne treatment plan that you have to strictly follow.

Here are some basic tips:

a. Stay away from sweets and fatty foods.
b. Wash your face regularly but not excessively.
c. Do not touch your face quite often as this may cause more acne breakouts.

However, if your regimen will not work, consider using an acne treatment product.

Over-the-Counter Acne Treatments

When you notice that you are having acne breakouts and all things fail, head to your local drug store right away. You can then find many over the counter drugs that you can use to get rid of your acne. If you are somehow confused on which product is the most efficient, check the ingredients.

The first thing that you should look for is an acne treatment cleanser. According to experts, brand name is not really an important consideration. What’s important is that the cleanser contains either benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. These chemicals have been proven to be effective in keeping the pores free from oil and dirt. Such ingredients also prevent acne breakouts from recurring.

When you opt for an acne treatment cleanser however, you should choose one that doesn’t make your skin excessively dry. Aside from cleansers, you can also make use of medicated pads and acne treatment creams or lotion. These pads and topical medications should contain salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide.

Aside from using products with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, keep in mind that you still have to observe proper hygiene. Take a bath every time you feel excessively greasy or sweaty. You should also avoid wearing tight clothing, backpack straps, and athletic pads and equipment since these can trigger acne mechanica.

Prescription Acne Treatments

If over the counter products do not work, you should consult the help of a dermatologist. Most cases of severe acne problems - deep, inflamed nodules or painful cysts – demand the use of various prescription treatments.

Most teenagers are often prescribed with retinoids (Retin-A, Retin-A Micro, Differin, and Tazorac), topical antibiotics, and combination treatments (BenzaClin, Benzamycin, or Ziana). These systemic medications are often paired with topical medications. Among the most common form of systemic treatment for acne is Accutane (isotretinoin). If the skin is overly inflamed and the infection is quite persistent, oral antibiotics should be considered.

Acne treatment takes time

It may take some time and a few trials before you can find the right acne treatment for your skin. If you are experiencing acne breakouts or if your acne problem worsens after applying some creams and gels, do not let it stop you from finding the right medication.

Some products actually trigger breakouts before they can start to take effect and treat the acne problem. Results can only be observed after two weeks of continuous use. During this time, many acne sufferers will notice that their pimples will become smaller and less swollen. Never expect overnight acne clearing. According to experts, you should allot at least two months before expecting any results.
